For those that don't recognise it, it's a 'bearing separator' to bring a bearing that is up against a shoulder forward to create a gap so that a bearing puller can get it's claws behind to get a grip. They are widely available in smaller sizes, in fact I have one or two, but I want a huge one to pass over a bearing whose outer is about 165 mm diameter and not finding one was hoping to make one.
The basic shape is no issue but that tapered non circular wedge that does the actual forcing is my problem - how would you machine it. I'm thinking probably EN8 hardened and tempered.
