Hub Puller / Slide Hammer

Been toying with getting something for a while now

Have seen the following, But not 100% sold due to the questionable quality:

Would I be better off fabricating my own Hub Puller?

Don't want to spend the earth as it's not something I plan to use often

When I worked in a ford dealer we had one of these for removing brake drums on fusions and fiesta as the wheel bearing in the drum use to stick / seize onto the axle. It's not great to be honest better luck keeping the wheel on and removing hub nut and pulling on the wheel to get it off, would prefer a hydraulic type over a slide hammer type

I have also made a couple of special adapters for jobs when needed. Also bought a cheap hub puller slide hammer, just two slotted holes, at an autojumble for under £5, it has come in handy as it fits Honda Quad front hubs, which is a common job for me, not often they stick, but when they do....

Slide Hammer

Years ago when I was younger, I had a 309 gti. To be in the cool gang it needed to be lowered. Front was easy, rear was torsion bar. What did I know about torsion bar, bloke said I need slide hammer. Bought one and within the first few whacks stud snapped in torsion bar. I was lucky that dad was an engineer and found a solution.

Car did get lowered by 75mm, it looked really cool on 17” Rims with 40 profile tyres. That was in 1996

I binned a few of these the other week,
Where great on big stuff but anything smaller than a transit and the flange didn't fit.

Made my own to use with a different slide hammer.
Peugeot 206 rear drums are the worst I have found

In my yoof a slide hammer with a sud extractor welded to the end was the tool for pulling out lock barrels.

Ive a home made one now, gets modified as required. As for pullers ive a clarke hydraulic one its superb.

Ashley at that kind of money its never going to do you any harm and will be a useful addition. I never stop using the slide hammer on mine, I bought a bag of nuts to suit the thread on the slide hammer and found it useful for a number of tasks.

Made one for some caps we have at work, 16mm bar, with 10mm internal thread to accept different thread size attachments. Nice lump of steel to slide! Hope that makes sense. I'm going to make another one if I remember I'll send you a pic.

I have a home made one for pulling the half shafts out of Ford axles, works spot on, just keep your fingers out of the way

Avoid this type where the handle screws on and is located with a half nut, the thread literally takes a hammering and falls apart. The one you linked to is better as the shaft hammer stop has been upset on the shaft and will take more of a beating.
