Hub Puller / Slide Hammer

Mine is just 16mm bar, with a nut welded on the end, to stop the slidy bit comming off. 16mm thread, on the buisness end. Just make a bit of scrap to fit whats required. Slide bit is drilled cast steel

I used one of them cheapo kits when trying to get the steering drop arm off a defender PAS box. Not entirely a fair example mind you as I've heard of these things resisting 30 ton hydraulic presses in the local mechanics. It took an absolute pounding and was still in one piece at the end of it. Never did get it off with the slide hammer unfortunately it was just too tough for it. Brother in law showed me a special land rover mechanics trick which was to place the PAS box on the ground and swing a club hammer 2 handed at the drop arm right on the sweet spot, one hit and the thing pinged off and landed 20 feet away. I'd buy one, certainly worth having in the tool box just in case

That looks like a Silverline special I must admit

Aimed at pulling dents out really and not hubs or bearings. The nut is the weak point and as the hammer is heavy you can exert a lot of force so the thread gives way in time then ends up thrown in a corner and called useless crap or worse if blood has been shed.

The landy drop arms can be a pig to get off, ̶s̶n̶a̶p̶o̶n̶ halfords make the best pitman arm pullers in the world and its the only thing I have come across that does them with ease . As Ed @sako243 can confirm

I'll confirm that the tool @8ob had worked amazingly well. Very quick to get my drop arm off, took longer to find some space to do it than actually get it off
