I've sent a message to Elmolift uk to see if they have a diagram of the pinouts on their UC60 controller that they are willing to share. If not, I can bypass the controller completely, but it would be a shame as it sounds quite a flexible unit. They do sell very nice foot pedals already made up to connect to it, but I can't see there being much change out of £400 for them if a hand switch pendant is about 200 Euros. I may ask how much they are, just for fun, and whether they have OAP discount on a display model

I managed to get details of all the controller connector's pinouts and instructions for programming and troubleshooting, I asked at the weekend and got a reply first thing Monday so kudos to Edmolift UK.

I was going to rig up some switches to test it, but for £25 I bought this foot switch for up/down and a separate latching on/off emergency switch.

So, just need to buy a couple of M12 8 way and 4 way connectors and I can test the power pack. if the controls work then I may get a solenoid operated spool valve for the dual acting ram so it can be controlled via the foot switch.

I'm doing this in between tiling the daughter's ensuite so may take a while......

the pedals and emergency stop valve turned up. I needed a 24v buzzer for the controls as its used in programming the controller, I had a few in stock from when me and the eldest daughter made a metal detector so sorted for that.

Next up is the solenoid operated spool valve. This one looks just the ticket and less than 70 quid and they do a 24v variant that I need as that's what the controller supplies.

Normal position is in the middle. Up, is to the left, down to the right.

I've also purchased a 400 bar pressure gauge. I'm pretty sure the power pack is calibrated to 150 bar as that what most of the Esmolift scissor lifts are set for. But there is adjustment if I want to go higher. 150bar seems to be enough for Colin Furze so I'll probably leave it at that.

I'll order hoses to fit once its assembled so I can get the right lengths etc. I will add some quick release fittings so I can use the power pack on something else if necessary.

Jumping in on this ("picking up dog-ends" we used to call it) - I've a 240v power pack lurking under a shelf somewhere, is there an easy way of telling what pressure it puts out? Might be cheaper to use it (cost me a tenner!) with a big (20 ton?) bottle jack I already have than the alternative of a air-over-hydraulic jack for my future press? I suspect there's a pressure gauge on a hydraulic hose under there as well, if I can link the two...

Here's the ram I bought after one too many Timothy Taylor's landlord.

The body is about 900mm plus the eyes. The diameter is about 120 to 125mm

Its probably closer to 10 years ago when I bought it, I had it down in the barn for a while, hence the dust and surface rust but the shaft isn't pitted, just muck.

There's some numbers on it, I'll try and decipher them tomorrow and I may have the receipt in my email somewhere.

It's a big long but I originally bought it to make a log splitter. But I have the ceiling height so could still use it for this.

Appreciate you've already got the foot switch but the ones I've used with twin pedals have been annoying.
The single switch ones are more intuitive to operate (and possibly safer)
Easier if you have more than one thing to do as you can swap parts over while the ram retracts itself.

The 2 switches are handy if a part needs realignment though..
The best of both would be to add a auto/manual switch for the retract.
Another handy feature on a long reach ram is a depth stop for the return, if you are doing multiple parts the same you can set it to give an inch clearance. Saves you waiting for the ram to come all the way down each time.

The controls, if they work ( I haven't tested them yet) let you do all sorts of things with switches so I can probably rig up some limit switches etc.

The hand controller socket is really simple. The top wire, pin 1, is 24v and the emergency stop or up and down button just extends this to the appropriate pin. The spare pins can be used if you want more buttons, so you could have a button configured to return to a limit switch kind of affair. The buzzer gives an indication of faults and is used in programming. No display on this so that should be fun.

The other sockets take connections for limit switches, burst valve etc.

Most of the examples in the manual are for single acting rams with no solenoid, return is under gravity so I need to work out how to associate the button with the appropriate connector/wire to turn on the solenoid. There are a dozen or so set programmes that use DIP switches, one is completely programmable.

Here's a typical limit switch arrangement on connector X3, again, not complex.

I just need time to sit down and go through the doc. I've started wiring up the foot pedals to the control cable, but I'm still tiling the nippers bedroom so may take a while.

I got back home after an epic 6 hour drive from Essex. I backed into the barn and unloaded the press and hoisted it into the workshop above.

For some reason the electric winch died near the top and I had to drag the press the last few inches. Two steps forward, one step back. I'll investigate what's wrong with it tomorrow. I use the small winch to shift the steel trap door in the workshop floor.

The frame on the press is proper heavy. Back to tiling the nippers bathroom, nearly done.
