I nearly bought one of these from amazon the other night but between putting it in my basket and completing the purchase the next day the price had risen by £43 so I removed it from my basket until the price drops again.

nope ,,, some dive compressors run that way , granted you do lube the odd place on the mechanical linkages but piston rings are fancy plastic and ceramic and run totally oil free ,,

Were you duped by the advertising? I see the smaller one is advertised as 5cfm and the larger one actually delivers 5cfm.

I've seen a few that are slightly cheaper but was hoping the hyundai ones would have better back up though I may be wrong. I nearly ordered one a couple of months ago, amazon have it up for around £280 so I put it in my basket, next morning I checked I had enough money, went to buy it and it was up to £320. I should be in a position to buy one in the next month or so but prices are all around the £320 mark.

Not sure what you mean.
The 24l one is advertised as 5.2cfm and 50l as 11cfm, is this not the case?. My reason for wanting the larger one is quicker refil and longer lasting pressure as i find the smaller one pressure reduces quickly
Edit: just checked the spec, are you refering to Airflow FAD = 5cfm for the 50l and 2.65cfm for the 24l?

Yep, you would possibly have been duped again, too - if you were in the market for another compressor and had not seen my post. 
Your compressor may be adequate for your needs but the real truth is the FAD. Any other way of claiming extra CFM is simply a way of duping the purchaser.
Selling compressors by quoting the receiver volume is a real joke, too, but believed by many - I don’t really know why but the marketing hype seems to claim the attention of some buyers, over the simple truth of FAD. I expect the good reviews are from those who don’t really use much compressed air - so the compressor is not over-heated.

I picked up the 50ltr version a week or so ago, got it for £285. Only used the air blower on it so far but noise wise its great, no louder than a washing machine and with my garage door closed you can only just hear it outside.It will only be used to power my sewing machine, staple gun and spraying a small amount of glue.

I'm looking to buy a second 50l one, has anyone tried one of the alternative brands? They seem to be the best part of £100 cheaper.
