I'm always on shade 11 with my Speedglas, if i use lower settings i get blinded by the arc...
Maybe you should consider getting another mask...

Not to worry, nothing to apologise for, you weren't to know and I do tend to ask questions as if I were a beginner sometimes...

I wish I could get a Speedglass but as I don't weld very often the cost can't be justified. I will speak to the supplier of my Esab and see what they say.

Ok im thinking your right and the mask is too dark.
Does the adjuster work and make it lighter and darker?
Must be faulty as mine works great.

Yes, the adjuster works fine. I'll try a little experimentation tomorrow and see if there really is a problem or if the fault is mine before I complain to the supplier.

Yes, unfortunately they are very expensive...
You should be able to try them out before you buy a mask, but that isn't always possible...
Sure hope the Esab guy can shed some light on this!

Well, I used the welder again today and it definitely could do with being a little lighter but the adjuster is working. I will ask about when next I go to the suppliers. It is usable but could be better to suit me.

Was using mine today and i could turn it up to 10 and still see perfect. Getting dodgy at 11.
