Picked this up 15 years ago for £1500 secondhand plus £350 for the sidecab new. Easily still worth the same money, try saying the same for a £300 halfords box.
I have a halfords side cab but don't like the fact the drawers don't open fully.

When do we start factoring in the decreasing value of money because of inflation into the resale value of these boxen? Just because you can sell it for the same amount doesn't mean it hasn't cost you anything.
Buy the cheaper boxen and invest the balance.
Ive one of the older costco ones with the daft cupboard. Works, does what it says on the tin, only niggle is the crinkle effect coating holds onto dust.I've a small 5-drawer Kinchrome brand rollcab. Double-skinned so reasonably stiff, drawers are OK (bottom 2 are deeper. £200 about 3-yrs-ago ish.
Only niggle is no drawer latches, so need to lock it if moving it far to prevent accidents.
If buying bigger, I think the Costco would top the list - I was impressed by the one I saw & used. Individual latching drawers are very nice!
I agree I can't get anything changed any more as I no longer buy anything as I don't need much now. Snap on did do a Heavy duty road chest range designed for service vans but as you have already guessed they are not cheap and rarely for sale. The main problem with Snap-On these days is the guarantee isn't what it was back in 1972 when I started my apprenticeship, several other tool companies have upped their game with the guarantees, and quality of their tools.
I still have some of my original Snap-on stuff, although I've had 2 sets of Snap-on boxes destroyed in service vans over the years
Yep, they still do but at starting price of over £3100+ up to £4600+ depending on spec then +vat.Snap on did do a Heavy duty road chest range designed for service vans but as you have already guessed they are n cheap and rarely for sale.
Do not forget van prices are cheaper than on their websiteNot bad considering that little lot is now £11,700.00 on the Strap-On web site!
Or rather, a bit lessDo not forget van prices are cheaper than on their website
Have you seen the price of pukka van racking?Or rather, a bit less
For the price of a SO toolbox, I'd expect it to be ready-installed in a racked-out van that comes with it!
Yeah. Racking is ridiculous money too for what it is. Some places though (Welsh Water are one) don't like wooden racking in a van (like all chippies make themselves) - cos they view it as a potential environmental hazard (can trap germs etc where metal won't) .Have you seen the price of pukka van racking?

This is on FB market place. It's too far away and possibly too knackered, but I'd be keen on something along those lines.
Loads of draws of all sorts of different depths.
Only niggle is no drawer latches, so need to lock it if moving it far to prevent accidents.

My mates one was bolted into a Sprinter van, and is loaded brim-full with his hefty tools for working on trucks & heavy plant/machinery..... and absolutely no issues with it (he had the sense to secure it well to the floor & the van bulkhead to prevent flexing/moving - as its not a bespoke transport box). They are nice and poke up with a lot of abuse, a mates tyre shop has one thats very heavily loaded and in constant use.

A few runners will most likely cost more than new cheap box.Yeah... I don't know where the line is with the higher end units though. I mean I don't care what it looks like but it's got to work.
I don't know if you can buy a cheap snap on or Mac, buy a load of replacement runners, and have a functioning unit for a sensible price.
Again, I don't care for the looks, but if something has a draw dented up so bad that it won't close, then obviously that's the wrong side of the line. Everyday dents I'm not fussed about, so long as it all works... or can be made to work.
