I use a cheap AliExpress laser 2 axis 70w laser table to ‘engrave’ stainless flat trophies. It only works on stainless, brushed advised not mirror, and only if you spray a material with sulphur in it on first. I use a moly disulphide aerosol. The sulphur reacts with the stainless and the laser to make a fairly dark mark that is quite durable but it’s not really ‘engraved’. You get the rest of the spray off with ipa.
The whole thing cost under £300. You get some fairly basic software with it but certainly easy enough to use text and picture. It’s quite slow though.
