They have a following, I know a guy that had one ( not the v8) but he couldn't live with the spine jarring ride, the love affair ended very quickly

It’s a VDJ79 single cab, probably just the angle of the photo that makes it look shorter wheelbase. It was white when I first got it.
Yes it’s a 2008, the engine is a single turbo variant of the 1VD-FTV (4.5L V8 TD)
That's it, I'm outCup holders damaged.
When I looked at used Land Cruisers and Nissan Patrols they were about three times more expensive than less desirable Jap 4x4s such as the Isuzu Trooper and others. I get that they're better cars but surely they're not three times more reliable or capable? What's driving these prices?

Fair enough, if you rely on the car that much then the extra money may be worth it. I personally feel it's a case where the reputation is bigger than the reality.I can only speak to my experience.
I've had two Mitsubishi shoguns around 15-20 years old.
Neither lasted more than 12 months before terminally failing. (1st was head gasket, second was rust + unresolvable fueling issues).
I just bought the cheapest, tattiest MOT'd LC in the country.
It just feels *better*, and I can't imagine it won't last 3+ years, so just based on that, it *is* three times better.
Having owned two Frontera's and hearing all the horror stories about Land Rovers / Range Rovers I do think the Toyota's stand up far better.I personally feel it's a case where the reputation is bigger than the reality.
