Ideas for a Workshop

@Screwdriver got 6 diddy castors here, 32dia, nom. 3.8mm dia. D'you reckon they'll be alright for my rolling scrap drawer? Salvaged from something but scrap otherwise.

One's wheel is knackered but a new wheel is on the 3D printer now. PLA for now.

Yep they look fine. Mine were little diddy wheels probably some tiny thing from Ikea (?).

But there are so many of them and the distributed loading is the "trick" to making it work.

Hmmm...I've only got 6 of them, well 5 and one repaired one. These are similar, same height. If I divided the "tray" into two with a solid divider I could drill up into that.

Got an assortment of others, just a few here.

I knew they'd come in handy one day!

I reckon that if I can get everything sorted in "tubs", whether it be Cornish ice cream or the Screwfix ones, I can take a stab at the m2 required to keep them. Perhaps I'll dedicate the 10x8 shed to just them.

A source of cheap, metal louvre panels would be good!

I've used door threshold strip and DIN rail in the past to hang linbins on.

Din rail also works as "french cleat"

Empty 8g N2O cannisters make reasonable handles for small files, you can usually find them littering the gutter. Friendly coffee shop might give you some if you ask nicely, they just go in the bin otherwise.

Still racking my brains where I might have got these. Two bags of four, no idea where from. BandQ have these:

Unbraked Light duty Swivel Castor WC84, (Dia)29.5mm (H)41mm (Max. Weight)15kg | DIY at B&Q

Suitable for use on light weight home furniture, these castors roll well on carpeted floors

Which look similar except for the price! I seem to recall these were so cheap I might just as well buy them (just in cases). Loading looks right though, a generous 15kg each makes my floor drawer© rated at 120kg which sounds about right.

Funnily enough, I have about 8 packs of those which I paid 50p/pack for: from B&Q's "clearance" bin.

It seems maximising space or not having enough space.... well its not just me.
In the quest for working space, I've built another entire small storage shed (now full), and in my main shed I've steadily been making stuff mobile by adding wheels.
I now have a castored shelving storage thing, made a castored vice-stand and a castored Pillar Drill stand (with storage), as well as wheeled saw table and tool cab, compressor, and stuff mounted on walk and off the roof beams.
Can't claim it looks all neat tho

I'll get some of those WC84 from B&Q. I'll use 8 like you.

PPPPPP! I'll still probably cock it up!

Limited on height to about 7" to slide under the front of the Capri. Even then I think I'll hit the arb. Going to knock it up loose, slide it under and see if it sticks out annoyingly at the front. Saying that 7" is a pretty deep drawer.....

At least you have room for 2 X chairs - do you often have spectators when working?

not spectators per se, more like malingers (good pals) who come and have a cold beer and a warm at the fire... breaks the day up, although sometimes you have to kick them out.....

the tip for the workshop thread is to always have the tool box drawers beside the fire then you can open a drawer and have somewhere to hold your beer when you're skiving..

don't worry about the petrol strimmers being by the fire place, not been lit this season. It's not cold enough yet, a wee bit fresh in the mornings, but not enough to light it up.. all ready to go though..

Bloody @Screwdriver! Bargain bin at B&Q my ar5e! Putting these ideas in my head! Each FFS! They do at least have ball bearings in them.

That and as I was clearly feeling frivolous, a box breakfast at the Blue Gem on the way back!

Some used but good scaffold board offcuts, run through the table saw and rebated for the buffalo board.

Yet to be glued and screwed.

It's gonna be a big 'un!

The castors will be 5mm proud of the outer frame aka a 5mm gap for **** to roll under.

Squared up a bit of buffalo board to make one of those wheely tray things for offcuts like @Screwdriver . The size will be whatever size it is as long as it'll fit under the front of a Capri. The sides will be o/of some scaffold board offcuts I have here. I'll make 4 sides and route grooves in to take the buffalo board:

Then, in a quest for more bench space...

20 years back I acquired a nice stainless sink unit. The intent was to plumb it in but it's never happened (it will). Used as a bit of a storage unit since then.

Just for now I cut a bit of flooring chipboard down to 1200x600. As it's not moisture resistant I've given it a coat of yacht varnish. More space to fill up!

Just got to decide what tat to store in the bowl that I don't need to get to in a hurry!

Judging by the gap under the taps they dispense shorts and not pints.

Well I didn't pay that much, nor would I. That's why I posted a link which includes the price (!)

Also, I have to say, the idea benefits from having a very wide, large area and a very shallow drawer. I put stupidly heavy items in there because the last thing I want to do is rummage through a box of heavy. I think mine is about 1200x600...

There are bicycles mounted on one of the double-doors as well (another space-saver effort), so yeah it'd be carnage
Thankfully Earthquakes in West Wales are pretty few & far between.

Also, I have to say, the idea benefits from having a very wide, large area and a very shallow drawer. I put stupidly heavy items in there because the last thing I want to do is rummage through a box of heavy. I think mine is about 1200x600...

The ones I got were the ones you linked. Steep but then I do have impulse issues...was there anyway, wanted to crack on. Haven't treated myself for a while anyway...

I'll make savings from making a handle from 20mm galv tube!
