Out walking today and I saw the biggest grey squirrel. It was running in grass and I thought it was a rabbit till it ran up a tree.

Odd you should mention it, i was walking along the road yesterday, when something caught my eye as it darted across the road. Great big grey squirrel it was, and it seemed not to be afraid of anything.

About 10 years ago we used to live in a terraced house, you could pretty much walk the length of the street through the lofts. Was in bed one night and heard something scratching about above my head. Asked my missus if she had heard anything to be told 'Oh yeah there are birds in the loft I hear em running about and 'cheeping' to each other.' Didn't have the heart to tell her it was probably rats as we were moving 6 months later and the house was getting demolished. I just put a 2mm steel plate over the loft hatch and made sure all holes into house were appropriately covered. Never saw one but we had a terrier that would kill vermin on sight so didn't worry

Rats are an absolute menace ! I help a local farmer keep them under control by shooting with air rifles and night vision, don’t see many in daylight but soon as it’s dark the place comes alive with em !
They bite through wooden doors to get to animal feed and through plastic dustbins in the stables where food is stored,
I’ve had 150 in the last few weeks, ironically a few months ago we had rats in our attic you could hear them running about above your head when we were lead in bed ! I put a trail cam in the loft and on playback found there was a family of four running around, watching them cautiously approaching the spring traps I set was interesting, got them with poison in the end.

Found a dead 'Roland' curled up in a coil of expensive data cable under the floor of the computer room last week The floor is elevated to allow it to become the ducting for Aircon to the computer towers. Smell was somewhere between 'open sewer' and 'rancid underpants'.
Cleaner refused to even enter the room.
Needed 5 layers of bin bags!

I bought some from the ironmongers like that, Big Cheese I think it was, the mice in the loft scoffed the lot & came back for more. I had a look & they do 2 types of poison, so I tried the other one, this slowed them up a bit but didn’t get rid of them.

We use rat poison to bait traps, the bait has an additive to make it smell tasty to the rats. The poisons only normally work when the rat or mouse has an injury (As I was informed most rat and mouse poison is or was a blood thinner, Mice and rats squeeze through a small gap and cause a minor internal bleed, this then doesn't stop and clot due to the internal bleeding. So the rat then dies... except if they dont squeeze in the hour or so after the consumption of the poison then they have no issue.... that and it seems like they are getting more and more resistant to the poisoning)

I thought [maybe different stuff though] that the poison(s) made them incredibly thirsty so they leave the premises to find water, never to return......

I read a recipe of plaster of Paris, flour and sugar is good as they eat it then it sets and they can't digest any more food. Poisons work because rats can't vomit so everything has to pass through.

Nor, presumably, escape back out the hole(s) they squeeeezed through to get into the premises? In domestic situations you might just be creating a very smelly cemetery to live with?

are you rural as it looks a bit high for mouse or rat could well be badger we are rural and its amassing were they will chew into
