Installation of my workshop extraction

Like the idea of such a system, but apart from covering the neighbours washing etc in dust, have you thought about the heat loss.
Can get cold even in the uk and extracting huge volumes of warm air could be expensive.
Is there a cheap mod so that you could capture the dust (external bin) and keep the heat.

with regards to heat, I guess I will cross that bridge when I come to it
I am hoping the warm air being drawn in from my compressor shed may compensate enough for any heat loss.

On one side I have a road with 'next to no' traffic or parked cars, on the other side I have a neighbour but my house is in between. From the ammount of blasting I expect to be doing (to start with at least), I havnt considered the extracted dust to being a big enough issue to warrant a filter. However, I guess I will be monitoring the system over time, so will make any necessary improvements if I need them.

It appears that filters may be available for the type of fan Im using. How effective they are, I wouldnt know. There would be some drop in the efficiency I would expect.

Brightspark, do you think the 6" duct going through a box, lets say for example 500x500x250 with a 500x500 filter screen, would be an efective way to reduce airflow resistace opposed to using an in-line duct filter If a filter system is needed? Just thinking the increased surface area will allow more air through.

the bigger filter over a larger aeria will be better / as for the dust from your cabinet even if u use it for a fair period theres not that much dust comes out. i just vent mine out of the door with a wood chip extracta and theres not much to sweep up after an hours running using a pressurised pot at 90psi ,suction guns the dust is hardly noticable

Im not going to worry myself over it then, unless it becomes an issue

Might be worth looking at the type of seperator that is used for wood chips.
I made one out of a plastic dustbin and some 50mm PVC wastepipe. Fitted between my shop-vac and the machines,it takes out 90% of the dust etc. So saves emptying and filters.
Part of the idea is that the air slows down as the x-section area increases, so the particles drop out. The other is centrifugal.
I will get a pic up later.

Thought this might be useful, bought the one in front for £4 - 6' of 6"ducting.



I'll work out how much of the non flex ducting I need and go and get it after the weekend (rain).

Awsome! could you get one of the extraction funnels for me and post it to me. We can arrange postage and beer token costs?

The minimum I would be interested in, is the funnel alone with the build in shut-off valve. This would involve disconnecting it from the metal arm inside the ducting though. At a later date, if I really want to, I could make a movable arm for my current setup.

The metal section at the other end of the ducting? i guess thats where the inside metal arm is mounted from? I could be interested in that too, but only if its not too much hasstle, its not a priority.

The funnel is the most important piece.

I dont like to be a pain, but Im sure we can come to a cash agreement

Usually suck. Then you can have several branches to machines with shut off valves
