Installing a bathroom extractor fan

I’m looking to install a bathroom extractor fan and a ceiling rose replacing the old halogen spot lights.

The most electrical work I’ve done is garage lights and sockets. So just wondering on the best way to do this, iirc extractor fans are wired up to the lighting circuit.

I’m thinking the best/most convenient place for the fan is in the ceiling where the old vent pipe was. (Moved it outside for more room innit) So the steam would be directed out the old vent pipe to the outside where it’s currently capped off with a push fit collar. Oh also it's a flat roof dormer so there’s not that much room

So was thinking I’d fit 2 bends on the outside with a vent cap.

Would have to trim the pipe back. I’ve not looked at any extractor fans yet so not sure if there’s enough room for one

But yeah what do we reckon to that. I’d also need to sort the wiring for the new ceiling rose. which would mean removing the current spot light set up. I’d like to have it so there’s two switches so I don’t have to have the extractor fan on when the light is on along with the isolation switch

You can get plenty of surface mount fans but whichever you choose you will need to check if they are suitable assuming thats in the actual shower area, condensation may also be a problem running down the pipe into the fan with such a short run

ah yeah forgot to mention thats above the bath at the opposite end to the shower.

The black pipe is a take off from the Geberit cistern. The idea is the smell gets taken away at source...I tried copying the commercial one. It doesn't work very well tbh.

You just put a bit of plasterboard up and cut they grey pipe short if needed.

Might need some sort of adaption to go from the flexi foil duct over that grey...what's the ID & OD?

it’s 110mm soil pipe

and yeah going to plasterboard and skim over the horrible artex ceiling anyway

I see you used wall panels, what make can I ask? Thinking of them rather than fully tiling when I do the upstairs ensuite.

went for the hydrolock multipanel ones while they were on offer

Annoyingly I didn’t order enough or just didn’t utilise them well as I’ve just had to buy another one for £240

Mine is wired into the light switch, comes on with the light, goes off a couple of minutes after the light is turned off.

It's annoying. It's only really needed when the shower is going so I should have wired it to the power shower pump or something really.
I don't know if you can get an automatic one that runs from a humidity sensor?

Not a bad idea that as I removed the old leccy shower and just terminated the wire in the attic, could use that. Or since I have to fit an isolation switch anyway I could just turn it off there when I don’t want it on, does yours have an isolator?

best wiring timer bathroom fans of a seperate light switch outside of the bathroom .use a 2 gang switch one for the fan and the other for the lights. why run the fan of the light if your just going for a pee or its dark . no need for an isolator switch to be fitted the wall switch is an isolator

How would that work with the timer? If the switch isolates it then how would it stay on for a certain amount of time before turning off?

because i would like a separate switch for the reason you mentioned, just thought i’d need an isolator for safety and regulation

No isolator on mine so I can't turn it off at all.
Unless I can find the mirror light in the dark and leave the big light off!

I don't think it would take too much to feed it from the pressure switch for the shower pump. That just turns on when you open the shower tap and you can't hear the fan when the shower is running and that's about the only time it's needed.
Apart from when I lay down a stinker but I prefer to wave the door around and share that rather than push it outside...
