Installing a bathroom extractor fan

How would that work with the timer? If the switch isolates it then how would it stay on for a certain amount of time before turning off?

I've no idea but that's how it works at the moment from the light switch?

easy 3 core and earth cable from the switch. wire a live and neutral feed in to the switch then the 3 core to the fan . one permanent live feed and one switched and the neutral conected. you will find all the new builds are wired separately and not of the light . its old hat and a waste of use

Take a look at Icon fans they have all sorts of sensors to turn the fan on and also have automatic iris shutters to stop draughts when not in use. A bit pricey but vey good.

Shifts twice the amount of air than the smaller ones.I've never had much success with humidistats and my first one I wired the switch side to the switch of the electric shower (not recommended as it won't meet regulations but safe as the switching side won't pull much amperage).

an expensive fan and quality but they dont last long as the shutters get clogged with moisture and dust and knack up easily .i fit the envirovent ones quiet running ball bearing motor high flow and 5 year warranty on them

thats what i fit but only pay 38 quid for them. there the best .that price is well over the top

I've my fan wired to a Quinetic wireless switch module. At the mo I've just got it that it comes in with the feature lights. Later I'll probably put it on an occupancy switch along with a brass return pump for the hot water.

Walk in for a dump and hit the switch, fan comes on. Turn switch off and it runs for 15mins. It'll also come on in its own if the humidity gets over a certain percentage.

I'm surprised no one has come up with a noxious emissions detector switch, turns fan on when it detects emissions then off when PPM level drops to safe parameters

My house is 5 yrs old. I have outside my en-suite and bathroom a switch for the room lights and the fan ( 2 switches on same plate) above the door is the isolator for the fan….
My guess is it is better to use an isolator sw if you need to swap out the fan assembly at some point…??

i allways fit an isolator even though its not a regulation in some cases . a wall switch or an mcb in db on the same floor is classed as an isolator

The only thing I can think of, if the isolator is of 3 poles, then it can be used to efffectively isolate all 3 conductors, such that if you accidentally short the Neutral to Earth, it won’t take out the rcd…maybe overkill??

well by rights even if all 3 poles are isolated you still isolate at the main supply. you cant guarantee that its off even though it is switched off . ive had 5 cooker controlls in houses that were suposedly off but were faulty and the appliances were still live
