My Lorch 150 inverter went pop ! A couple of days ago , so got it picked up by firm who sold it to me , was purchased in May 2013 but only used maybe 4 times a back up set ! And was like new as the rep said when he picked it up , the thing is I don't think I was sent out the extended warranty ? Got a missed call from rep today left voice male wants to see paper work for warranty wasn't sent any ! Glad I didn't order the tig set 220 I was wanting will see how this pans out before I get another lorch !

Without knowing hardly any of the details I can say for sure if the machine was purchaed as new in May 2013 then inside the box would of been the online warranty registration forms etc if they wasn't there then I will find out why etc.

We'll phoned about the inverter on Friday all Ian could tell me was " a component had blown of the board " ?? The lecky engineer was out on site ! And he was going to see if it was a new board or the " component could be replaced , I had a look through my invoices to see how many time it had been used since new 4 times les than 4 hours work !
The lecky engineer was down at the engineering work shop I work at today , he says a " component as blown of the board " ? He can replace the component , but if the main board has gone it's the price of a new machine , he then said I quote !"I no we sell them as generator friendly but you have to follow a certain procedure " and the ones he's seen pop like that have been plugged into the generator before the generator was started " we could have helped you out but the machine was on our shelf to long though the warranty starts the day you buy it ??? So it's not looking good Matt and I'm starting to think I've been shafted ! I wasn't given any paperwork to apply for this extended warranty the are not touching the machine until it's cleared up !! Ps the generator was started and checked before the inverter was plugged in !

Spoken with Adan at Mathieson's he is one of the owners, as I said Mathieson's are a very good outfit to buy from and I would have no problem recommending them to anyone. Adan doesn't know any of the background and he will speak with his service dept tomorrow to get some info.
But, what he said so far is that whenever they sell any machines, in this case, Lorch, they make it clear that the warranty is only 12 months, unless the product is registered online within 30 days of date of sale. Once registration has taken place the warranty is increased to 3 years. I don't know or can say that the warranty forms was in the box when you received them, I know that they would of been inside when it left the factory, but that doesn't really matter now.
When Adan calls me back tomorrow i'll speak with the factory to see what we can do to help you.

What do you mean about what there engineer said about being generator friendly? The Handy 150 is perfectly generator friendly. There are minimum requirements that the generator must meet such as minimum KVa ratings and anti-surge protection but these requirements are no different to any other inverter of a simerla amperage output regardless of the make.
Jumper it takes 30 seconds to register the unit online. It can be done anytime 24/7 provided it's done at any point within 30 days after receipt of the unit, most people find that a small consideration given that it increases the warranty by a further two years completely free of charge, so even if the owner is desperate to burn some rods (which I understand) then there is still ample time after the initial novelty of the new kit has passed to register it. However I don't think that this was the case in this instance given what Mark has said the paper booklet which would of promoted him to register seems to of not been given with the machine when purchased.

Yes,i didnt mean it in a negative way.it wasnt meant as a dig against the system.just an insight into my habits.i can honestly say ive never looked twice at a 'register4warranty' form,never mind fill it in.but this will make me think twice next time im unboxing something expensive

No I didn't think you was being negative but I was just saying that it's definately worth doing given how little time it takes and what you get in return, I think had Mark had the booklet he would of remembererd but that can't be helped now.

I am sure I have read some place that:-
a, in the UK you get more than 12 months as a standard right
b, making you register for "extra" rights / warranties cant be enforced (I think Silverline was the company in the court case that sorted it)
As this unit might have been on the dealers shelf for a while could it be from a batch that was pre forms in the box?
If it just needs one component replacing surely the dealer would be mad to try to get out of this one?
