Is propane butane mix torches hot enough

my propane butane mix will get 8mm flatbbar glowing cherry red but it takes a while. I use smashed up breeze blocks as a sort of forge and that traps the heat better but still takes a whike

Yeah. I've got a small oxy propane with a hobbyweld oxy and it does disappear quick!!

The turbo torches using mapp gas are apparently hotter quicker.

theres no real substitute for heating thick material up using a propane torch and oxy acet or oxy propane up at the same time

I use a simple propane torch and it does come in handy for quite a few things, but can be pretty hopeless. The heat isn't there, and what you do have isn't concentrated. I'd rather have oxy acet even on just a no. 2 nozzle.
Without an additional supply of oxygen everything is a struggle when it comes to freeing off seized stuff. Personally I would suggest propane/butane/MAPP without additional oxygen is best kept to heating small items for working in a purpose built hearth to trap the heat.

Oxygen acetylene there simply is no substitute. As you can get a nut attached to a bolt glowing hot before the bolt is warmed up causing nut to expand way quicker than bolt. Try spanner comes off easy 99.9% of time. For that 0.01% there's always the cutting lever just a press away.

I'll look into rent free O2 and acetylene cylinders if the multi saw bench I've bought doesn't 'cut the mustard'. At the least such a set up would be far more portable. Can I assume that the mini versions work out quite expensive in the long run? Although considering how much (or little) it's likely to be used ...

Smaller can work out expensive if you use a lot but are easier moved Not all jobs are at the vice

for my input:
we had oxy propane for cutting duties and some bending/heating
Oxy acetylene for welding/brazing and any other bending/heating where oxyprop fell short

I did buy one of the little oxyprop diy sets but found it not much good-any sniff of a heatsink from vice/pliers/other holding method would knock it out.

Oxymapp I have no experience of but I did see this outfit http://www.migtigarc.co.uk/FlameKit/flamekit.html. if its of any interest.

In France the diy sheds sell Oxy A kits small, medium and midi the bottles are rent free-this is the medium 500 kit I have http://www.castorama.fr/store/Poste...500-PRDm212249.html?navAction=push&navCount=2.

No idea if these kits are available in UK.Handy kit though.
