It's difficult, I work with chaps some qualified, others aren't (I'm currently in the not) pretty much all of them refuse to read manuals, it's drives me nuts.
Both parts are important, the qualifications show you can learn which is an essential skill if you are expected to read manuals

A lot of folk say to
Me “ohh just draw it out and then you know your right” 45ft wide and 30 to the eves no problem!
Saying that grandad was a apprentice draughtsman at vickers (when it was vickers and not BAE in barrow) and they done nearly ever thing at one point in scale on the floor still in chalk then transferred to paper

I was trying to be positive but yeah, I wouldn’t want to do it full time. I’m covered in burns and such and that’s just being an ‘all rounder’ for want of a better word. I am lucky because I can do a bit of metalwork, a bit of mech stuff and hydraulics etc so I get a varied life. Onboard I was a Fitter. Just filled whatever gap needed doing.
I’ve done time in machine shops and welding bays for friends (holiday cover and whatnot) but a week or so is enough. Welding up 100 of the same thing, or machining 250 parts the same. S0d that! The first ones are interesting but after that I get bored. I like to problem solve and think a bit.
There’s work out there like that in metalwork but it doesn’t pay so well as the production stuff.
I know that first hand as I’ve a couple of ongoing production jobs. I don’t look forward to the orders!

Hi there , well if sound engineering is what you love , you should not leave that for a job that maybe you won't like .
In my opinion you should take a look at audio visual and conferencing companies , they need very skilled technicians about sound , video , simultaneous interpretation .... in general they work for very big events ( I'm not talking about teenage parties installations , I'm talking about events that cost thousands and thousands of pounds to get organized , sometimes millions of pounds , like G7 or Nato conferences or international meetings )
, those companies are called 'system integrators' and they supply/rent all the technology needed , technicians and experts , so huge screens , projectors , sound systems , controlling rooms , tons of cables , communications systems , mics etc etc ..... ( if I remember right there is also an english magazine based in uk called AV Magazine ) , you cannot imagine how much money the AV market is making every year .

Plenty jobs down here, just need to look at Indeed.
This is some one I know and would consider someone without experience, relatively interesting as small runs or individual builds, with opportunities on cnc machines etc…

It's like that with me and deactivation work, soul destroying in so many ways, weld, grind, repeat. All the while knowing you are destroying someone's once pride and joy. But it is all money in the pot and I have bills to pay like everyone else.

They are paying £600 a day for coded welders on the replacement oil line between Fawley and Heathrow. None too shabby a wage for a man with a mobile welding rig bolted down in a van. Most of them on these jobs are old boys because there are no nippers interested in the work. Just saying

The nippers need to tough it out, its not an easy ride but nothing worth fighting for ever is. Pipe fitter/welders are grumpy gits but will warm to anyone that's prepared to graft.

I agree to be fair when I was a. It younger with zero ties I tried all sorts to get on a pipeline team and work away as I was told that’s where the money is. But without spending years back in collage I had no chance...
I even walked across a field to a team of welders from “waiting’s” and after hewing the fat for a bit he said hear if you can weld this gear now Ile give you a job! They were running mig root and cover pass with stick...I showed them my down hand mig root...perfect he said 2 rods in and he said he would have me in a heart beat ect ect but their not hiring right now

I am going to disagree. There are opportunities but nobody is going to walk straight into a well paid pipe welding job. They will need to have cut their teeth within a mechanical services company that's into industrial pipe installations and spent a good few years with pipe fitter/welders. Prepping and fitting up for welders on industrial pipework is gutty/heavy/dirty work and definitley not for the snowflakes, Just getting the kit out and packing it away every day would kill off most of todays nippers, its where I started and I watched so many of the other lads drop like flies.
