I had to use youtube tutorials to learn the basics of fusion. Thankfully for me I was nursing a sliced-up finger at the time so I couldn't get distracted by workshop duties or I might never have managed it.

Now you see, I flatly refuse to watch YouTube video tutorials about ANYTHING. If it can't be wriiten down, I am uninterested.

I don't see it as any advance Parm. It is usually some yankee wanabee TV star that is a) unintelligible, b) lacking in presentation skills, c) intrusive and noisy, especially when others are in the room. The wealth of offerings is only as a result of money to be made, rather than a desire to impart knowledge.

I like books too I read every day, but I find that with a video tutorial you get to choose between presentation formats. If you buy a book you'r stuck with it like it or not.

You can take a book to bed, in the bath or even to the beach. It can be read and digested in bite size segments too. A web page can have its salient points printed out and referred to with grubby mitts etc. I agree that there are some things that are visual, but so many other tutorials are not. I am old, grumpy and stubborn, I have no intention of embracing 'yoof culcha'.

I find the benefit of a video tutorial is you can pause it, go to Fusion (or your favoured package) and do the thing just demonstrated, then return to the video for the next baby step. It's a bit like having the lecturer in the room with pause and rewind buttons.

The philosophy of teaching is "Tell them what you're going to tell them, tell them and then tell them what you've told them". Worked for me.

I did a masters few years ago. It was mostly online tutorials. Combination of recorded video presentations and the usual death by PowerPoint.

I was sceptical at first but I really got into it and found it a very easy way to learn

much better than being in a real classroom as I was able to pause, rewind and re listen to control the pace

Questions

1) where can I get some stones to fit in the jig. Instructions say upto 180 mm long
2) what grit or grits do I need? The knives are pretty good to start with
3) what superglue works on PLA? I tried the pound shop special as it’s all I had, ruined the part and didn’t stick

My favourite place to buy super glue is from the double glazing shop. You get a big pot for not much money and a spray can of activator. The glue is quite thick and slow setting = strong bond but if you need it to set fast a puff of activator will make it go off instantly.

It's funny how the same people who ridicule us poor (former, in my case) SIP owners for modifying our TOPMigs and trying to get them usable are happy to spend hours of their time and bunches of cash on trying to get a 3D printer to do what it's supposed to do out of the box

I refuse to get drawn into making modification for the sake of making modifications.

mine worked straight out of the box. As a novice user I can’t think of any mod I would need.

only issue I’ve had was operator error during assembly

Now the trick is to learn how to use it properly

A PETG version would be welcome as well as Matt's , just in case the PLA degrades over time or I stand on it or something. It will also serve as a quality example for me to strive for ! Happy to pay the going rate of course.

It looks quite small on the images, but then I suppose it only needs a bit of additional fluid.
