ALL iveco dailys have a proper chassis, the smaller models are slightly lighter section than the heavier models .I had mk1/2/3/4 due to the fact they carry the weight,and unlike other trucks are rarely stolen by certain society members ,also if maintained do starship mileages

This is my second one,the engine is in great nick,converting it to a camper once I get the rust sorted, ivecos will do a million miles if looked after

I may now do it myself as I was having a look and the out riggers on the van are quiet good,all id need to do is replace the cross member with maybe uni strut and steel plate on top

Any recommendations for an entry level mig welder?

I take it it would be ok to use a gasless mig welder if I'm just welding steel plate to the chassis/unistrut?

When compared to solid wire with inert gas, gasless is a hot messy splattery smoky business. However, it does make MIG welding simpler and a lot cheaper. In fact, some people even do like it. With fully-adjustable welding power from an inverter, and using new sheet steel and strut ( rather than patching onto thin rusty original metal ) it might not be too bad.

Just an update guys....

I cut out the wheel arches and pulled out one of the cross members, I thought the cross piece would have been sitting ON the outrigger but it's actually in the outrigger I cut it off square and cleaned the outrigger up a bit.

If I cleaned it back more will it be possible to weld a channel to it and the chassis in the middle,surely this would be sufficient??

Yep be fine,long as everything marrs up without to much gap for the floor to attach to.

I used to have lots of different size top hat section for just such occasions, 8ft lengths but that was back in the day. Mate was a foreman in a sheet metal shop so that kind of helped a bit.

Ripped everything back to the back doors and have cleaned all rust/paint/oil off and ready for box section and welding

Cheers, cleaning the hammerite was a nightmare but it's coming together

If like me you are going to use full sheet , dont do what I did and make it a touch fit all around , as I welded, spotted first all around, then gradually working around jumping from gap to other side etc I finally ended infront of wheel arch near side, sheet had expanded with heat and got the slightest bump, now most people would have been happy with it , but I was miffed !! the reason, my fault cutting to tight a fit, that would have been ok , but found I had to get a fire watcher laying underneath with a wet rag putting out underseal fires, so instead of slowly going around welding and letting it cool, which was my intention as my was buddy doing a return favour I pushed on and did it in one hit. all turned out great but not perfect.
I mot d it then after they were happy, sealed ,painted,undersealed etc.

oh, large sheet of cardboard for first template, transfered that to some 3 ply to get exact ,then used that as pattern.

How do you mean a template? I was going to put the panels in the way they came out,as in 4 panels from back to front and then cut out for the wheel arches?

Also will account for expansion,cheers

well mine was rotten so I just used flat sheet , if your buying factory panels no need to make template.

No I am using flat sheet but I was going to lap joint the edges as I left an inch and a half of floor panel on either side, not sure if that's the best thing to do but I'd rather not have to weld in more supports in-between outriggers
