Jaguar XE strikes again!

My better half's car, 2016 Jaguar XE has never ending problems. New timing chain system, def fluid issues and nox sensor etc to name a few £1k bills it's had.

Then it's had this intermittent non start issue where it clicks and shudders but won't actually turn over the engine. Jag mechanic suggested to check for water in the rear fuse box / body control module but it's dry.



Any idears on here?

Ps don't buy jaguar land rover products! This one will be for sale shortly if anyone would like a really nice looking car. Just make sure you have either a bus pass or tow rope when buying one of these. You will need it.

All joking aside Jag mech can't look at it for 2 weeks. So if any of you have had the joys of these XEs let me know any tips to check.

She is again driving my S320 and I'm driving my S600 15mpg super unleaded to work FFS it'll cost me +£100 in fuel per week easy until its fixed.

If your S600 and your wife’s Jag is such a financial burden to you, may I suggest buying a Dacia sandero….or two?

I am used to MB forums which can be hit and miss.

Does anyone know of a worthwhile jaguar forum? I looked at a couple of them and didn't seem to have many on them answering questions with logic, just people who squeal about warranty or taking it to the dealer to get rinsed sort of thing.

No flood. No crash. Really clean well cared for car. It was actually an ex lottery winners car locally. Full history etc just a POS like all jaguar land rover products as I've come to learn.

Crash input - permanent, will stop it cranking. Investigate the DTC's, clearly something is causing them to be set.
I've yet to see a Wermacht staff car that doesn't have problems - NOx & SCR feature high on the list of issues, along with timing chains too.... Oh, vacuum pumps that fill the vacuum system and water pump clutch with oil, low pressure EGR coolers that fill with soot and exhaust restriction flaps that restrict a bit too much - and you can't blame it all on being a tarted-up Renault

Is its battery in good health?
Failing battery can throw up lots of seemingly random faults on JLR products, if its still on its original at 7 years old its probably well due replacing.

I did remove and clean the battery terminals yesterday. Its an AGM Jag battery. My battery tester (a good one and very reliable) gave it 78% health. 50% or less is replacement.

So I don't think it's the battery.

I suspect maybe water somewhere and / corroded fuses.

It makes weird clicking noises underneath etc when it's going on.

It is, truly. Ok has had a couple of coolant issues, mostly down to me buying non factory replacement parts.

Thanks for that and good point on the "crash" fault code.

Since its been sitting a few days now I'll maybe charge the battery with a CTEK charger tomorrow when I'm at work and clear all codes when I get home and see what re appears.

u remeber those old early V12 jags........
I used to look after a few in Los Angeles.......
once out of warranty.....they got a b/new 350 Chevy eng n gearbox's....a 5 core radiator and binned all the crap wiring in the engine bay.......
made a nice driving / looking car with reliability....
prob not allowed now........hahaha........
should have bought a Toyota/Lexus.......

I'm no car fault finding expert but I'd be very tempted to get a new good quality battery fitted and check all the ground connections.

'Crash' DTC's can be set by unexpected drops in voltage and network dropouts, most often during cranking - I'd do a battery disconnect/reconnect, clear down the DTC's (there might be a specific routine to clear the crash flag, can't remember) and then try with a booster pack or decent jump leads. The 78% is the amount of charge the battery can hold, not necessarily the SoC. If it were an autostop enabled vehicle, it's very close to the point where autostop would be disabled. Also, put a voltmeter across the battery when you attempt to start it, see what the voltage drops to.
