Joining two IBC tanks together ?

When I was young I used to build plastic model kits and one of my favorite was the WWII VW Schwimmwagen so that is what is giving me the basic design idea.
A cheap 12v or 24v trolling motor would be used for motion in water.
There is nothing in the rules for mobility scooters that says you can't use any method for propulsion and in fact at one time you could get petrol versions which are 100% legal. A few years ago I adapted a petrol ride on mower into a mobility scooter and DVLA didn't bat an eyelid when I registered it
For this project I'd like to go electric however petrol might help reduce weight. In fact another idea could be a small petrol engine driving an alternator to produce a hybrid I already have two 350w golf buggy motors to avoid the need for a diff so would like to use those as decent electric motors can be rather expensive.

Why do you want a test tank? As @Fastdruid eluded to, the amount of water displaced equals the total weight. So 150kg load will dosplace approx 150litres....just pour 150 litres in the hull to find the level

I'm now thinking of making a frame out of scaffolding (and my favorite joiner - KeeKlamps of which I'd got "quite a lot"), lining it with OSB and then using a pond liner

Test tank is because I would need to work out placement of components for balance and leaks of any items that go though the hull below the waterline.

I am already working on another design for a rock crawling mobility scooter that would enable me to venture places where a traditional model couldn't reach. Just stumbling over a source of a small CV joint at present

minis are the smallest im aware of

however take a look at the end of this

normally its direct drive or wheel motor something im not keen on as can be expensive

i prefere the gearbox drive on the above video as one thing spins easy to repair

Shame your not a bit closer you could have had this 3000ltr tank and cut the top out, it was only changed as its starting to crack near the top fill point

There is a local guy that collects old poly fuel tanks for free, the plastics get recycled to make canoes of all things , dont know whats so special about this type of plastic

Possibly the consistency of the grade of the plastic. Similar happens up here with blue milk carton tops, they get turned into creel door hooks.

Look on the usual places for used heating oil tanks? Folk are always giving the single skin ones away (or asking very little)

Alternatively, what about starting with something proper - like a small boat or a Canadian canoe? They'll be tougher, lighter, more rigid, less leak prone etc, etc, than cobbled together stuff. Modificating something designed to float/move in the water has got to be easier than starting afresh.

It's a way off of your brief but I once bolted an outboard to the back of a Canadian and strapped a plastic garden chair onto the front. Was a lot of fun.
