Why not just get a space heater if you can get free fuel

Its really nothing advanced at all -
Blower attached to metal pipe at the bottom.
Metal pipe has small hole drilled in it, and bit of 8mm copper poked through, into the airstream.
Hose from 8mm copper to fuel tank, with valve.
Its about as simple as you can get, and the hottest burner I've ever made!
Its for my refractory - even without lining, it does aluminium very quickly, but once its all done properly, I'll be doing brass.

Imagine the simplest way possible - if there is any doubt, and one way is more complex, then choose the simple way.
No venturi - just dripped in.
Fuel - whatever will fit down the pipe (once its hot) (ive started on kerosene, or bio, and it runs on veg, but i need wider bore pipe for veg really)
No pre-heating
Just a blower (2 for a tenner, off ebay)

Like the OP I want it as a workshop heater, ideally I would like it to be dual fuel, waste motor oil and wood, just to burn whatever I have for free.
I think it would be useful if it had a back boiler and I could pipe a couple of radiators in

the problem is the difference in output of heat whilst using dual fuel
your fine using wood /logs and coal or wood pellets or even wood chippings /sawdust for a multifuel swapping to an oil or fuel based gives a different sort of problems
with wood pellets we have to use an insert to swap between the wood or logs for it to work

It's an option, would be nice to put old oil to good use though.

Its not all that controllable. Well, it is, but it goes from "can't get close" to "Im kinda scared and need to turn it down, but there's a reason why I called the first setting "can't get close""
It won't work on tick over. It requires residual heat to vaporise the oil. So, if it cools, it would go out.

I was thinking I could weld lengths of flat bar down the length of the gas bottle - make them longer than the bottle so they act as feet lift it in the air
then put a fan just off the ground, and a cowling around the flat bar... so it would be a bit like a giant heat sink, fan blows air up between the bottle and the cowling
guess the lack of control wouldn't be great tho, bit naff if you have to turn it off / start it up again as you get too hot / cold ?
