Kromer caps.

I was advised by my welding supplies that the welders caps made by kromer were the ones to own and seen as my trusty old cap is looking a bit worse for wear I bought one. Well I'm intrigued to find out how the heck others get on with them. The hard peak at the back is just annoying no matter where you put it. The material is proper rough on my for head and makes my head itch. I've since read they do soft peak ones but still. I'd never own another my trusty cheap one will stay with me a bit longer and as for the kromer, in the bin it goes.

back in the 80s i had a brilliant kromer. Perfect fit, nice bright pattern. When i went back to get a replacement a couple of years later they had completly changed. Colours were all dull and the same size had so much excess volume in the top i could not only pull it down over my ears, but my eyes too.

Horrid peaks and you look like a fool with the visor off and cap on. I wear the bandana type now just so I don't look like a prat that thinks it cool to wear their cap backwards and show their under-crackers popping up over their baggy trousers that are way too big for their skinny drug thinned skeletal wimpy fame.

Other than that I am quite open to the way others wish to dress

I've never really been too fussed about the patterns/colours etc but I'm just so suprised at how well known these things are in the welding game. It's my first proper kromer and my last too. The type I have is a cheap one really soft fabric but does the job. I assumed these kromer caps were the top dogs but I just cannot forget it's on my head. Junk.

Looking a Pratt doesn't worry me while welding I do it most days
Comfort on the other hand is a priority if I'm gonna wear it for long periods.

The new type with the stiff peak need putting through the wash three or four times before you use it to soften it up. And I usually cut half the peak off with a pair of scissors.

The older softer peaked kromers are hard to come by now.

I wouldn't have a kromer long enough to call it old. The beanie looks comfortable but I would like the soft peak covering the back of my neck. I've had a few glowers jump down there in the past. I'm gonna look on the net tonight see what I can find that's as close to the one I've got at the mo. The label in mine has worn out so I don't even know who made it. I bought it maybe 8 years ish ago from a shop in middlesborough I would guess for less than a fiver and it's been a god send. On a mission now.

I still have an old leather skull cap from when I first started at the foundry many years ago. I don't often wear a for welding cap these days but if I do then any old baseball cap will do.

Soft peak here, had it for about 10 years, comfortable... very very comfortable

Look on ukwelder shop,plenty of comfy soft peaked kromers and bag loads more.theyre all fairly comfy once you size them to shrink a little first wash

I have a recent Kromer and a stiff peak (the cap I mean not me at the moment anyway) I did think about slitting the cap and removing the peak but leaving the empty flap like the old soft peak models, but after a couple of washes the hard peak hardly bothers me now,.

Not at all!! I only have a tig at home but at work I use all welding processes.

I dislike mig but I have to do plenty of it. it I love mma. It's not my strongest suit but I'd like to think I'm good enough to get by at most joints. Tig is my strongest suit and my favourite (providing it's a decent job) I have to use all processes in all positions daily as my job is welding applications. So I carry out trials with different processes, consumables, joint types prep types etc and offer better welding solutions to boost sales. So a good cap comes in handy from time to time especially with the over head stuff.

Ive got a lairy colourful hat with a peak that I wear back to front I dont wear it without the mask on , it comes off with the mask so I dont look a pratt ! as for my undercrackers on show , never in a million years !

I gave up on Welders caps about 12 months ago. Either the peaks were too long and stiff, or too short and soft. In May 14 I went over to a Weldas Firefox Bandanna for the warmer months, and for the coldest months of the winter I have a full leather welders hood with shoulder cover to fit over the bandanna... it works for me.

stick it in the washing machine @Richard. softener and tumble dry, will shrink a bit and peak softens a good bit from being washed and dried
like the peak for keeping stuff from going down my neck...not managed to burn a hole in mine yet despite overhead grinding and stuff...
just wish they would bin some of the more "garish" patterns...

To be honest no washing or drying is going to make it comfortable for me. The material is rough and itchy the peak is stiff. I've already given up on it, it hit the bottom of the bin that very day and I'm sticking with my trusty old welding cap

I've just found a semi local gal who makes kromer style caps, she makes them custom sized and are 100% cotton so it takes a few days to be made, received mine today in the mail. It's seems quite well made for round 7£ let's see how well it holds up.
Don't make fun of me for the minions theme, but I had just seen the movie when I ordered it
