Was at Boc today and noticed they got a good range of chromer type hats ? They will be stiff at the peak wash it a few times makes it a bit supple and better at the neck :-)

Looking a Pratt doesn't worry me while welding I do it most days
Comfort on the other hand is a priority if I'm gonna wear it for long periods.

I was told speedglass was the helmet to have but I sold mine as it did not suit me. I guess it's a personal thing and the shape of your head? I tried wearing a baseball cap but the lid just falls off....

Speedglas are good and probably the popular choice among many but there are lots about that are just as good and in some areas better. I have a 9002x and a new tech Xl. Both have pros and cons.

Look for a Watson hat Richard, you'll struggle to get one as supply trickles into the UK from the makers in the USA but they are worth it if you can find one. Very soft, good shape and well made.

Is that the ESAB New Tech XL Richard? How do you find it?

I have the standard size New Tech (The one that adjusts from shade 6 -13) , I find it very good, perhaps sometimes wish I would have got one with a larger viewing area but I don't really do enough welding to justify splashing out more!

They are big num things and I don't like outside controls.
That said for optical clarity it beats the speedglas hands down. Mine is the old old light grey one Which gives a lovely light blue viewing which I prefer to the speedglas green. I've had it ten yrs still going strong. Pros and cons to both. Speedglas design for lens changes is much better than the new tech.

Yeah I know what you mean about external controls, I knocked mine to grind mode the other day and then went to spark up on a bit of stick welding- blue spots everywhere!!

You guys seen the clarity of the new ESAB aristo tech HD on jody's Fabtech video? Colours look amazing.
Also, we've got some old, old kromer caps lying about on the shelves at work that have been knocking about for ages. I think these are from when they were still really good.
We're dying to get rid of them so if you want one @Richard. i'll stick whichever one you want in the post for you, free of course.
