I would nearly always run rods on DCEP unless it's specifically very thin material. Actually, personally I haven't ever needed to use DCEN, although my brother does regularly.

I do prefer DCEP on everything.
I just change manipulation .
If it's thin I just do short runs

Well I think it was DCEN anyway. When things dry out a bit I'll go out and try both polarities. My main discovery from the exercise was that I need to set 10A higher than the max range on the packet for the rod for T joints. Actually, there's no info on the Nurima packet, I just went by the standard range for 2.5mm 6013, found it needed more than 90A so upped it to 100. The 2mm Pecols did have a range, I think 40 - 70, so I tried upping that to 80 and it went better.

No 2 welders are the same, the amp markings on most are a rough guide. What runs nicely on one welder at 90 amps might need 100 amps on another one.

When I get a rod running nicely on a welder I write the setting down on the box/tube of rods so I know where to start next time.

Thanks @Turbo. Must get a clamp meter one day and check calibration on mine. I have been writing on the packets. I also have a notebook but am not so conscientious about making notes.

I'll search out that thread. My 4.2kW Kama does fine up to 100A. I don't have any 3.2mm rods to test beyond that though and, not having calibrated, that 100A could be 90. It doesn't seem to struggle at 100 on the dial though.
