laser level recommendation

no idea on these other than what I've read on reviews etc online...looking to buy one as a present...no specific use but needs to be able to work outside so I'm thinking would need to be +£100 at least...

maybe simplifying it but as a rough guide how much would you need to spend to get a clear projected line outsideof 5, 10..etc metres?

looking through screwfix (for example) the working range doesn't always scale with price....

I bought an eBay laser level years ago, used it on loads of jobs, it’s been great for tiling, putting up kitchen cabinets and just recently running the conduit in my workshop. No need to spend a lot, mine would struggle outside in broad daylight though with much over 4 metres, don’t think it was more than £30 and that was 7 years ago

I have a Dewalt red and i have never had a problem, can be faint on a clear summers day but i have still managed to see the lines

water level is probably the best solution for getting a job done... looking to get a self levelling laser level for someone not too bothered about accuracy, wouldn't buy one for themself, but would use it if they had one...if that makes sense!

Got 3 or 4 of the red Dewalt ones at work, they're pretty good indoors. They're just about usable on a bright day. Sticking a strip of black duct tape to where you want to see the line helps. You can also buy a reciever for them, that detects the line when you cant see it.

Also have a green dewalt, which is much more visible on lighter surfaces, and the line seems a little crisper at the max range.

Bosch ones are pretty good too, worth a look, one I borrowed off a workmate had a handy dot feature, effectively a laser plumb bob. Was very useful for marking holes in a ceiling for some 4" pipes to go through.

Have a look at FFX, they have a much wider range than Screwfix.

my pacific laser cost over 2oo quid ten years ago and there not brilliant outdoor on bricks or any other material. i find the red line shows up the best on a yellow surface so i just use the spirit level that is yellow to high lite the line . i have a nice set of water levels that works outdoors for taking a lot marking out using pegs in the ground

Wouldn't work if you were trying to get an illuminated straight line on something.

Have you got any recommendations on water levels BS? I have an old one which the tube is fine but would like a nice set of vials.

A good Watts water gauge is accurate to a thou over any distance.
I aldo hai a Leica self laveling laser with 5 points, Excellent kit, It will put a dot on the ceiling and another on the floor if you need it,

I have a cheap Bosch one and it does the job in small rooms. Bigger buildings it's useless unless you switch the lights off.
I also have a red laser PLS 6G and it's a million times better than the Bosch, although still not great outdoors.

We have 2 green laser PLS 6Gs at work, I bought em last year, and they are awesome, the distance the laser works for is unreal, and they're usable outdoors no problem.
I wouldn't hesitate to reccomend them, the PLS is a proper work tool.

I wouldn't be without a laser level these days, if you need more precision you use a dumpy level, for most stuff you can get by with a laser line level.

most lazer levels you have difficulty outside seeing them bright days they are a pain

if your level set up you can centre the device in the middle which will half the distance between the points

just by spinning the lazer level it will always be level from both sides

I have a Chinese HUEPAR HP-9011R C/W well padded carrying case , it came with a wall mount bracket which can also be set on a sturdy photo tripod . It's self levelling , has a snazzy red reflector with a matt mirror type backing it's good for 3mm over 10 mtrs levelling and 2 mm up , 3 mm down dot at 10 mtrs The target indicator is excellent even on sunny days . I simply used a cardboard box with the indicator taped into it to get a rough height then walked back to wherw I wanted to make the level reference mark on a concrete post, cut off the bottom of the box to make a hood which taped to the concrete posts whilst I rechecked & marked the level correctly .. Repeated this on another eight points in concrete fence post so I can get a level for my shed base from any point in the rear garden .
I did that in several places so all I need to do now is months later now it warming up for spring nce again I can set the level up to pick up one of the marks then swivel it slightly to pick up another two dedicated aiming points on concrete fence posts .
I cut a long triangle of L profile soffit UPVC with a lip on it , cut it to about 1 mtr long . I set it next to the level attached to a side of my log cabin , using a fine point sharpie made a centre point on the tringle then added cross hairs and mm scales on the vertical & horizontal and worked back from the reference point as to how far down I'd need to drive in levelling pegs for when the new shed base is pumped in it's form work . (17 x 33 foot base 6 inches thick )

I'm still trying to remove the remains of the old demolished pond walling & drop the cast concrete lip by about four inches as well as remove my 7 foot high x 4 wide x 2 foot deep brick built cold smoke house and remove a crap constructed by " Professionals called Bodgeit & Scarper " 15 x 14 slabbed patio before I can get the base done. Hence setting up numerous leveling points to put the levelled pegs in as the ground gets cleared by hand ... I can't get a mini excavator in as the blade is 110 mm too wide for the access.
14 months ago my Heupar cost me £24 . 50 inc delivery ... the day I got it ( 2 months after ordering it from China ) I saw almost identical but yellow bodied ones with the same spec on sale in various big online builders merchants & on Amazon at £135 .

So am I the only one to find the dot from my laser level, bought from Makro years ago for a laser tracking experiment, while useful for building stuff, is excellent for tormenting the cat that lives in the house the other side of the road, 60 yds away when its sitting in the window, looking in . . . red dot appears on the far side of their living room window . . . cat takes off and reappears leaping up their wall . . .
