Do you mean an isolator type switch, or an on/off control type switch?

I usually use schneider (used to be telemecanique) - mainly because I work for them and get a staff discount, but there are loads of other decent makes, klockner moeller I’ve used in the past and they were also very good.

A on/off type. The one I got is an ass to wire up and is poor quality .

If I have to fit a terminal onto thick stranded wire I would usually use a solder terminal & add heat shrink for insulation. If you don't have a solder fitting you can cut the plastic insulator of a standard crimp fitting & use them.

I guess it is a difference of opinion but soldered connections or soldered tags on mains cables always sets off alarm bells and an urge to re do with crimps. Almost as bad as people who tin / solder the ends of cables before fitting mains plugs the screws will work loose and it will arc.

If you're trying to do a 100% perfect job, then holding the two earths together with a self-tapper into plastic isn't really legit, because their clamping force is dependent on the plastic not yielding.

If you're happy not being able to remove either cable without cutting, then just butt-splice the earths together. If you want to be able to remove them, then use some other kind of joiner.

Ive got a couple of these (still need to be wired up for drill and lathe). They are not a true “one box” nvr though, you’d need to provide your own relay for them to operate, but the box is sturdy and the switches are usual telemecanique decent quality.

Can anyone recommend a good quality on/off switch .

For a NVR i normally use these, there are a few variations.

If its a motor with no inbuilt protection the this range from toolstation takes a lot of beating.

You need to select the overload to suit the motor FLC.
If you need a metal enclosure for better protection you are looking at around £80+ the price jumps considerably from plastic.
