Lawn Tractor / Mower Lift

Are there any plans about for a lawn tractor / mower lift?

Just thinking I've a bit of M24 studding doing nothing...

I've seen those advertised and wondered if twisting the chassis as it lifted caused any problems?, I normally drop the cutter deck off and lift with an ATV lift.

I have exactly the same model mower, bought it for £275 and not needing the grass collector bit I stuck it on Fleabay, after a fierce battle between a couple of bidders it went for £137, pretty much half what I paid for the lot.

made my own , used an old ladder , and a large piece of wood cut & shaped for a prop . simply move it down a round if u want it higher . wheel fits inbetween rounds so no fear of it tipping rite over.

Cheers. Sorting the electric start on it at the mo; have replaced the B&S starter motor gear. Starts fine off a jump start pack. Original battery naff and pcb shot so my son's rebuilding that.

Biggest issue is gear changing, v.stiff and transmission drive belt has a habit of jumping off. Pretty much guaranteed if you put it in reverse. Quite likely to jump off too if you let the clutch off too quick. I added an M12 bolt, close fitting to the pulley above the gearbox there's literally maybe a 1/16" gap of that and the belt STILL comes off!

5-speed this one, + N & R.

As you press the "combined brake clutch control pedal" forward:

This assembly coming o/of the gearbox, behind the o/s rear wheel pivots, on the bottom bolt, backwards.

Looks ideally placed, if slack/worn, to interfere with the belt, being so close to the pulley.

Slack belt more likely to catch too I'm thinking. I've ordered a couple of repro belts circa a tenner each to play with.

We bought one recently, little Husky, is performing well. One of the handiest features is that it can tow a small trailer. I use it all the time, especially if we fell a tree, I can tie it to machine and slide it across the grass around to the log store for sorting. It even has cruise control, I've never used it. I've stopped using the wheelbarrow, this is far easier!

I've an MTD also where the deck is shot or at least was beyond my welding skills when I last looked at it. Keep thinking that would make an ideal tractor.

Yeah! The refurbed mower pcb my lad did works, good lad!

Replaced the broken pin 7 on the connector with the unused pin 9. The track side's a bit worn. Tried re-tinning some tracks but not good even with flux. Pcb would be easy enough to remake if necessary. All LEDs seem to do what they should in response to ignition, charge, cutter engage, lights and brake. Stuck a Capri battery on it just to test (but physically too big). Best price I've found is £45 delivered for a new battery.

I had an almost identical Westfield mower - sold it last year. Mine also had issues with that PCB ! I used to lift it up on the forks of my forklift if I needed to get under it

Check out 038 batteries, they seem more common than 138's and are the same size, I've fitted one to my Westfield T1200

For your transmission problem, make sure you've got OEM spec belts. Incorrect belts can have more give and not designed for transmission loads.

Also ensure no play in pulleys caused by worn bushings/bearings.

Had an early Westwood years ago, excellent machine....other than the rotten cutter deck

Didn't even know it had one! Thinking about it I know someone with I think maybe a later model - just has the electric start and no pull start. I'll go see if his has the clamp and measure it for you.

I have a high lift pallet truck and intend adding additional supports to that for raising things like quad bikes, ride on mowers, mobility scooters etc.

Seriously now... I'm after some plans to make a small backhoe to go on a lawn tractor like this. Thinking use the pto to drive a hydraulic pump etc. Any ideas?

@Onoff Rig up a strong bar/tube fixing to the wheels studs, and an eye at the balance point for an engine hoist? Safety props too, of course. E & O E
