You're only making the bushes to swap out. Easier to keep spare bushes than a whole plate. TBH I would give it a try with the £10 starter kit, turn and tap the inner parts, 3d print a mould. It'll cost you £10 and some time.

You are right of coarse. Its just another job/learning curve to get over.
(Never looked at the drop down, a tenner against 200 is nowt even for me)

Looks like I wont need to machine any parts. The rubber, easily came away.

The rest of the rubber needs removing from the mesh, might shotblast them.

Printed mould with end plate to fix the centre bush. This one is sized so that the mould remains as part of the bush, but you can easily adjust the scale so it makes a rubber bush that fits in the plate. You'd have to destroy each one to remove the skin. If you print in ABS it'll likely be durable enough to leave the skin on, but PLA would disintegrate I think.

One would require a 3d printer. I don't... one day.

A two part mould like shaft clamps would be the easiest method for me. I’m off for root for 2 bits of ally

I did find a load of shaft clamps for servicing Air shox. But didn't want to butcher one I might need.

Why not make a jig to hold/position the threaded inserts within the casing and cast them in situ as one? Perhaps a smear of silicone or similar to stop the casing bonding to the new poured in jollop so you can get it apart if you need to

I have a vague recollection of someone re-engineering a Hillman Imp half shaft flexy coupling for use on their Sunbeam

I think this is for a sunbeam motorcycle not a car.

I had thought the same, but I then have the problem of getting it apart and out if it didn’t work or did but required replacing at a later date.

(Yes, I know I over think. But its free and I can do it from the comfort of my living room. Not at the side of the road. Hindsight is never an easy pill to swallow).

Oh yes I KNOW that , Had two S8's over the years, dismantled the shaft drive and coupling on both, AND STILL have a vague recollection of someone modifying a flexy drive from a Hillman Imp - I had one of those as well

I’d seen that and wondered if he had reservations about its longevity, so priced it accordingly.

How many miles do you get out of a set?

I’ll speak to my local engineering suppliers first, as he usually comes up with a part or a lead. I’ll also machine up a split mould to have a go making some. That way if they work but dont last I can remake them. Turn up new centres I could have a spare set.

A bit of lathe time today, machined the pinned halves together in a 4jaw. Not sure on grade of aloominanmum it was, lovely finish.

Machined up the centres today, heat treated and blasted. Sat on the fire drying out and a little warm before the first goes in the mould, resin and parts need to be at least 20*c . Fingers crossed should have one made later.
