You'd probably find that with divining rods. I can follow blue water pipe tofield troughs etc with the diving rods I found when I bought this place.

But for 235 m two tees, or a digger me thinks.

I did this with our workshop water supply across my yard.
I was so lucky with this - we proved which half it was. Then started digging from the edge of the building and luckily about a metre trench into it - we found a badly fitted/leaking pipe joiner.

Yes I have bought large quantities of duct & in grand scheme of things it is cheap. You are quite right that it wouldn’t be much fun pulling 32 mm through 300 metre of duct but it would still offer protection to the pipe & you would still be able to dig down & replace in intervals easier than replacing the whole lot.

Ive customers until November, hence the desire to only dig and shut off once if possible. If I can find the leak I can just repair, its all less than two years old.

apparently 10m is the max run, depending on the ground it can go off in the wrong direction
Phone up water supplier and take out "homeserve"
This is like a water system insurance policy.
Leave it a week, phone up with leak.
Take meter readings.
Report back and then it's their problem.

If it is less than 2 years old I would think it is probably leaking on a joint so you could measure out what ever length the pipe was bought in to estimate where the joints are. This isn’t going to be 100% accurate because I know that 100 metre rolls of mdpe aren’t always 100 metres long.

I have one of those they are really good in the right conditions and as you say they head to the surface if the ground is soft.

Yea Ive had that thought, just trying to avoid digging before I know where to dig. Theres only 1 joint, where it changes from barrier to mdpe pipe. And I know roughly where that is, as I marked it, just in case!

You are lucky. My pipe is about a mile and a quarter from the meter! Runs over a garden two farmers land, under a track and under a road before it gets to our land!! We dug down in several spots and used a squeeze off tool to locate the leaky section. One leak lost us 3000m3 - that one was easy to find when we realised!
I agree with hotchef though - if you know where the one join is, dig there first. Unless you have high heavy traffic areas that mdpe is pretty tough and isnt likely to easily spring a leak. The joins are the weakest spots.

Saw a team trying to use one on a housing project in Chatham it hit some flint and went straight down. They had to dig a BIG hole with a JCB to recover it

I recently did a repair on a in a similar situation to yours. it travels approximately 1 mile across farm land with a road crossing. It was originally pulled through with a tractor drawn mole which in places is only 300 mm deep & it regularly gets ploughed up.

About twenty years ago I had a call out to a care home with no heating. The system had lost pressure due to a massive leak in buried pipework. We spent the next week tracing all the pipework with a cat and genny and using listening sticks to try and hear the leak. Once we decided where to dig some other contractors had to do the digging. This got really boring really fast so for a laugh we decided to try divining rods. One of the chaps had some welding rods in the van so we bent a couple of those and marched about like a couple of idiots for ten minutes thinking it was funny and lo and behold we found the leak. We both had a go with the rods and both had the same result. We got the builders to dig there and we were spot on. Literally took ten minutes to find it.
before I bought one I had a company out to do it, thinking paying someone to do it was cheaper than buying one.... they got theirs stuck.... then got it out disconnected the air line and tried to pull the air line out the wrong way, so they pulled the skinny end trying to pull the end with a bit knocket on it through the hole :-(
they were on for hours until they started to get in the way so I tied the airline to a forklift and towed it out... fully expected it to snap bout it came out... shot out like an elastic band when it eventually came out :-o
I don't know how they got it stuck.... when it's working away trying to push forwards you pull the air line twist it anticlockwise and it puts the mole in reverse... they bac themselves out back down the hole.
