looks good i would use it but i might have made a + head to save having to try and get the second split then it would be better for the fingers! it is worth mentioning though that most of the wood he was splitting looked soft wood to me with very few nots those bits could have been done as fast (and with less lifting turning etc) with a hatchet

To go back to the o.p., I find all the bending & picking up of logs to re-chop them does most grief to MY back.

On the lookout for a car tyre to put around the chopping block. Cram a few logs in and split them without having to keep picking each half up.
