Single pot Lombardini (LD6 or similar IIRC)? 20-odd years-old.
I used to see these running at 3000rpm on portable generator sets back in the day.
Tbh they aways gave the impression of being a bit.... cheap and built to a price. I always had the feeling that they'd not do big hours before wearing.
From that time (25 odd years ago) you had a choice of 1 pot air-cooled diesels, mostly....
1. Honda GD411 (pricey but good)
2. Lister A Series (AB1, AC1, AD1). If starting handle only, then a nasty workout to start (you needed to be an athlete with the strength and speed of Dolph Lungrens W***ing hand to get one going, AB1 esp. Good once going).
3. Yanmar L70/L100. IMO the pick of the bunch cost/build quality. Expensive spares though.
4. Lombardini LD6. As said. (There was also a monster LD9 1-cyl - I'm pretty sure even ole Dolph would struggle to pull start one of those!
If the compressor is occasional use (& the Lombardini is goosed) - would a petrol Chinese Honda GX340/390 clone perhaps be the cheapest & easiest way out??
You missed Hatz. Superb diesel engines, likely the RR equivalent for this class of diesels. I have three or four (one in parts). The others have always started when required. The E75 has been with me for over 35 years and always an easy starter (has a cold start device on the pump as well as the option of screwing in a smouldering wick)
