I think reverse polarity (your +ive Earth motor) would Fritz the camera.
A GoPro with onboard battery would last a while, and a PowerBank would extend that in the +ive Earth car - maybe that's the best compromise?

If you wire it to the correct standard polarity which I think is outer casing -ve & the tip +ve.
Direct off the battery with an inline fuse simpler still maybe?

I went ahead and bought a Action Cam (Akaso EK7000) to act as a forward facing "dash cam" and I am really pleased with it. Cost less than £60 including windscreen suction device and SD card. Records on a continuous loop, High Res images, and comes with two batteries giving 2-3 hours recording time. Its the best solution for me as it doesn't need to be wired in, can be moved between both positive and negative earth cars and is easy to fit. I might buy a second to act as a rear facing cam.
Highly recommend.
