I've used a couple of There machines in the past tin man and found them to be bob on. I'd say you saw a dud one.
Next time ask him if you can pull the trigger.

as i was saying earlier, ive never used one but id say they would sing like a bird when going.
it wasnt a dud one, it was up on a 6" stand in a showroom brand spanky new.
as for pullin the trigger, sure enough it might impress some so much that you'd let the smaller things go, not the button, that could happen to anyone but the wire cover, nah, i personally wasnt impressed.
and no fault to lorch at all but you never get a second chance at first impressions imo.
like i say tho, in the grand scheme of things, its first world problems and probably just me.

Just because it was in a showroom on a stand doesn't mean that it should of been there. The very fact that the potentiometer was damaged to me was a clear indicator that it shouldn't of been on display. Regarding the wirefeeder, I think it needs some context.

I assume we are talking of the MicorMig. This machine obviously is damn expensive if considering it from the point of view of a DIY/Semi-Professional point of view, but in the context of industrial, professional use then the family of that machine fits into the entry-mid level portion of the market and if your going to make judgements you should do it against the other machines which are available within that sector of the market. Kempii FastMig Basic, which also has a Plastic feeder, the ESAB Warrior which are just two examples and I personally would stand it against anything from a quality point of view, welding performance point of view and technological advancement point of biew against anything else from any competitor within that portion of the industrial market and more importantly that price level.

We have the P Series and the S series, with the S Series being the current flagship of the mig range that have a more expensive housing design that I am sure would exceed your expectations but the MicorMig is not within the P or S price range and wasn't designed to be.

I would just like to add to this. I have bought 3 Lorch machines from Matt and they have all been top notch build quality and when I say top notch build quality I'm not kidding. When I bought my first Mpro252 mig I was asked by my boss if I would allow someone else to use it. The location was rough piece of wasteland where roll on roll off bins and builders skips were stored. The mig got its power from a big 60kva genny. I got a call one day that a driver had reversed back and not noticed the Lorch and had placed an empty 40yd container on it. As the bin was placed it knocked the Lorch onto its side and into mud and water with the runners of the bin sitting firmly on top. Naturally I was a little put out (family site) I got the driver to lift the bin up so I could drag the Lorch out. Covered in mud, bent wheel, scratched case, bent chassis underneath and water inside. I cleaned it off and left it in the sun for awhile. I turned on the power and it fired up into life with no sign of damage and is still going strong today, I doubt there would of been many other machines stand up to that abuse. Since then I have bought two more Lorch machines from Matt and I would do so again because their machines exude performance and build quality. I felt I needed to say summat because I don't like to see a brand get a bashing (no pun intended) if it might put of a potential customer. Mistakes happen even in a showroom, if it had been me I would of pointed it out to the manager who would of no doubt removed it from display or would of implemented a temp fix.

Tinman is entitled to his opinion. As I said I think it's fairly obvious that the machine with a broken potentiometer shouldn't of been on display in the first place, but I think his main gripe was about the opening and closing of the side panel on the feeder. All Plastic components are never going to have the same feel of quality as pressed steel or Aluminium but as I already stated the feeder was never designed to be like that. Aside from it having to fit to a price segment of the market, it also doubles up as a dockyard feeder when the handles are taken off so weight reduction is of absolute importance as is the fact that it's totally electrically insulated.

god lads dont think i was runnin down the lorch, i never said i was, its just what i seen re the wire feeder door.
i know they are a good machine and ive never even used one.
it was a minor problem in the grand scheme of things so dont be panicked.
