Something is definitely a miss with the setup somewhere. As said you’re going to have to do some fault finding or get someone in, a good welding equipment engineer who can find the issue.

Try getting the Murex (and then the ESAB) to arc up on a totally separate (un-connected) bit of steel. If the problem goes away that would rule out a supply issue. I think!

not necessarily, it wouldn't rule out supply issues entirely, but agreed it would at least confirm whether there was any "welding feedback" from one machine affecting another.

First thing I'd be trying is to measure the supply voltage with one starting and then the running voltage, then what it is with the second starting and running, to make sure it's not just too much load, or peak inrush affecting the supply to the units. Two 400 A welders coming on at one time would be a fair load banging in on the supply, this can vary a fair bit depending on supply cable section and off load voltage.
I regularly have significant volts drop here, being at the end of a very long line from the supply transformer. I see it more so on single phase kit, lights dipping down etc, but its such an easy test to do, it would be the first thing I'd try to eliminate it.

to be honest the lorch 400 is a try before we buy so i think we'll return it.
We really need 500amp watercooled
but its a nice machine
