I'm not sure if it is a function of modern technology but we can have 4 Lorch sets banging away all day and we don't have a frightening lecky bill.

What welding position? Gaps?

Horizontal flat (1f/2f) open corner. Theyre only small, can be turned over etc no problem. No gaps butted up perfectly with use of a jig (that forms the aluminium backing block). Butted up like the image attached.

What is the thinnest stainless you could weld with the SpeedPulse XT process Matt? Just out of interest, because if it could replace TIG on on the outside corners of some 1.2mm stainless boxes (aluminium backing block behind the weld) my old firm would put an order in now!

There is already kit out there that can do that. It still looks like MIG though, nothing looks quite like a TIG open corner weld just yet.
Lorch will have something that does it but so will the other big names.

I'll run some samples tomorrow on some outside corners and put some pictures up, if they are of interest we could organise a demo.

I'm not sure just how thin the sheets are I have though.

Does it have to "look" like Tig?

Doesnt matter what it looks like just needs to be a good clean bead that can get ground back smooth for a good finish for powder coating.

Any progress on 110v micorsticks yet Matt?

I think it will be towards the end of the year. They are working on a MicorTig which will be 115/230 and also be able to run off the mobile power1 rechargeable battery.

The power source from this will probably be the basis for the smart voltage MicorStick.

Hi Brad,

Unfortunately I didn't have any thin Stainless Steel, in fact the Thinnest material I had was 2mm Steel!

But I ran an outside corner (doing the mortal sin of welding Steel sheet with a Stainless Steel wire!!)

Firstly As welded

Then a couple of shots with it wirebrushed and with half of it linished off to take off the welded corner. Its obviously not exactly what your company is doing but should give an idea. I think it would definitely possible...

Have shot a couple of videos today but the file size it too large from the original iPhone size. It was something like 53mb and the forum only allows a maximum of 5mb.

I've downloaded a video compressor and got it to below 5mb but now it says the file extension isn't allowed.

Any ideas?
