If they are fixing something you are ever likely to want to remove again I would be tempted to tap out the old hole and replace them with a small button head bolt.
Whenever i have used them for anything other than a cosmetic cover or name plate they seem to work loose eventually

I have a handful of these holding small brass plates to engine blocks (1930's Morris), haven't come loose of their own accord but pop out when tapped from behind.

Having never drilled and fitted, perhaps it's a case of ensuring the hole size is correct for the size of fastener and the material concerned. I must have a Google!

To be fair they hold up just as well as a small screw would in the same application.
I normally drill the hole the same size as the pilot on the end of the drive screw.

I dont know what they were originally designed for so its doubtful I am using them for the right thing!

I think they were always intended for affixing name-plates and such like.

a 3/32 drill fits into the hole it needs to go in so need next size up i guess

Anyone fancy sending me only 4 off small ones of these fixings [brass coloured for preference, but beggars can't be choosers ] - just for fixing my 'Founder Member of the Grumpy Old Man's Club' plaque to the cave.

It's presently held there by brass-coloured upholstery pins which have rusted pretty badly.
