I have seen one drain the oil out of tractor A to top tractor B up as they both needed oil. And were not due to be serviced yet. So didn't want to buy new oil.

ive seen one take the 2ndry filter in place of the 1st and just put a new 2ndry filter on. the filters in question are about a quid

What's often surprising is how long people can get away with such things before something goes wrong.
A lot of people don't deserve a 1/5 of the luck they have with equipment.

true but then i have seen a engine eat 5 high pressure fuel pumps in a row. tipping drums back into the bowser is a big no no, esp when one of them is actualy roundup, that stuff is good at killing plants but even better at killing fuel pumps

That must have cost some!

I know that using ex spray drums for diesel is a bad idea as it has destroyed fuel pumps. I recently told my boss that a worker there frequently uses them for diesel (it's OK, he 'rinses them out and tips it down the drain'...) and it could end up costing big time. It took some doing as 'we've always done that' but he did speak to him.
But generally speaking that boss has a zero maintenance and 100% abuse policy towards equipment and although things do come to bite him he seems to get very lucky, it should cost him more than it does.

A mate of mine had a couple of cars, a rather nice Riley and an old banger. When he changed the oil in the Riley he put the oil he took out in the banger, from where it ended up in the atmosphere.

the old genny here gets 2nd hand oil... not quite sure what it dose with it but it cant be leacking that much and it dosent seem to smoke that much ether but hell it gets through the oil

A mate of mine had a couple of cars, a rather nice Riley and an old banger. When he changed the oil in the Riley he put the oil he took out in the banger, from where it ended up in the atmosphere.

I was doing that for years - 2000 mile oil from the bike, which was sheared down to a 10w40, went into the car for another 4 or 5K.
