Making a safe heavy duty extension lead?????

Hello Davidni,

"I need an extension lead as my ancient one is heating up a lot and I'm worried."

Do you unroll all the cable, if not it will heat up with a good load on.

Its not on a reel so is always used uncoiled...but its just ancient and hasnt been looked after before it was given to me and I havent exactly nurtured it as I didnt buy it (wrong attitude I know but its different when you have to dig deep into your own pockets eh?).

You can't guarantee a good permanent mechanical connection with screw terminals onto a soldered wire.

It's a better solution than most. Besides, you can't guarantee a good connection with anything, over time. Take the random ability of plugs to work the neutral terminal screw loose over time, even with static leads.
