just out of curiosity how much do you charge for something like these? do you charge by the hour or just a set price for the items no matter how long it takes you?
i'm new to the welding game and only do it for a hobby but i'm just wondering how you price projects
Very nice stuff Paul. Just curious,I have been using an abrasive cut off for most of my career. The thin discs tend to distort on cutting SS for mitres. So I usualy find myself correcting the angle with a flap disc = more time. Moving to a TCT chop saw for mild steel (most of my work) Any tips for SS? Or just use thick discs?

The chopsaw discs are just inox grade 14" x 3mm thick, as far as I know that thickness is all that's available in that size, never had a problem with blade distortion using the G clamp method of holding the work, as I said earlier the vices don't hold properly when set at an angle and the blade pulls the workpiece through and will distort the blade.
TCT chopsaws are great for mild steel, but even with the special blades are expensive to run on stainless. I also have a bandsaw and hardly ever use it for the same reason.
This is as cut, a bit of heat discolouration from the cut and the usual burr to deal with, but its going to be welded so no matter.
Thanks Paul. I usually use the clamp method for angle cuts. I actually don't have a 'vise' clamp on my cut off grinder just hold it against the back stop. (Home made kit). Just that angle cuts have always been a slight prob due to disc flex. Nothing that can't be corrected with some MIG filling... for mild. The SS is a current prob.as I have a bunch of hatch hinges for a mates boat. 50 odd angle cuts on 6X50 flat. Not a big prob, just wonder how others deal with it.
