I fancy making a masons dummy hammer

If I had to make one it would be heavy tube weld capped and shaped with grinder.

It would not be to bad if you make it like this one , obviously not explosive compound in it but the handle isn't bad

This is the lump of metal I’ve been playing with, 60mm diameter and 80mm long now that is been faced both sides

Drilled and enlarged a hole, then bored it out to 30mm

Bloody hell what a mission, it tough as anything and doesn’t cut easy. Holes made and ends faced off, all done with 0.2mm cuts. Took all bloody day

now to make a mandrel so I can start to make a taper

We use en8 or brass, and it takes a few minutes a head you've kicked the arris out of your boring, the handle on mine is 30mm where it meets the head, I would guess the hole is about 16mm, but its opened up to about 20mm at the top for about an inch so when the wooden and steel wedges a put in the handle spreads out and holds the head on.

en8 would have been easy, but this is all I had. It’s gonna be a heavy old beast
