Melted my torch :(

I never used my TIG on full power for any sustained time before, but tonight I needed every amp out of it. Everything was going fine until I felt the torch lead trembling then sagged under it's own weight. Seems I boiled the coolant and melted the pipe.





It might be that the coolant level is low I've been meaning to check it for a time. Anyway, I now need a new WP20 torch. Don't want to break the bank but I don't want bargain basement crap either. Gas lense a must and I'd like a good collet, the split ones I have now don't seem up to much.

Looking for suggestions.

I recently melted my Parweld Pro Grip as well due to coolant pump not coming on and me not noticing.
I got a replacement from Zoro for £85 , that was an 8m one. If you like euro style handles then I think they are hard to beat, very flexible hoses/cables.

It was the loud popping sound that made me look round Thing that really annoyed me was I melted the zip on the Weldas cover

They are at £104 now with 15-20 days lead time. I could go for the cost but I don't want to wait 3 weeks.

Don't think I can justify CK prices Brad, not for my usage.

Aye, same price when I bought but I used one of the discount codes.
As you say though a 3 week wait is not very good

When I order from Zoro I just google “Zoro discount code” and so far one has always popped up. Usually 10% but sometimes 15%

Mine was already the flexible one but it would have been uneconomical for me to replace because the feed and gas hoses were also melted as was the cable, I don't do half jobs

Well, I got the power cord out of the torch sleeve and thankfully the damage is limited to only that. The rest of the parts are still intact.

I have the new torch coming but I will also look for a replacement power cord to bring this one back into service as a backup. If Ican find one cost-effectively that is, so far they seem to be 2/3 the cost of a whole torch kit.
