Melted my torch :(

Well, I got the power cord out of the torch sleeve and thankfully the damage is limited to only that. The rest of the parts are still intact.

I have the new torch coming but I will also look for a replacement power cord to bring this one back into service as a backup. If Ican find one cost-effectively that is, so far they seem to be 2/3 the cost of a whole torch kit.

My 8m Kemppi sprang a leak. I thought it would be mega bucks, but its only the last 2m thats watercooled. Total coast was less than 100quid.
(Ive 2 8m Starparts water cooled leads brand new in the box in a cupboard somewhere)

Does it have a heavier conductor for the first 6 metres? Mine is spot-melted all along it's length.

I just got a notification that my torch is coming after lunch today which makes me very happy because it was supposed to be Monday

I guess I'd better give the old girl a clean and service, and check the coolant level.

Some time ago I saw a post where someone was using a superior type of tungsten collet to the usual split one? I'd like to get some of those but I can't find the reference. Don't even know if they are compatible or if it required a different torch body.

Parweld do them, I got some from @Tom Orrow L and they can be used in a standard collet body.
They are called wedge collets.

They do, that is what I use them on, although I have a gas lens but makes no difference.

They are not that expensive, I got a few spares at the same time I got the wedge collets

There you go. No-one to blame but myself. I lost a little coolant from the melted power cord but only enough to drop the level a few mm, this tank is nearly empty.

I'll blow the dust out and re-fill with 70/30 de-ionised water/antifreeze. I probably don't need the antifreeze but I'd rather not rish the pump if it gets cold.



At least the welder and cooler have had a good blow-out.

No I don't use any

I did a seach for the coolant and found a post by Jim Davey which had the ingredients roughly 2/3 water 1/3 antifreeze and 0.1% something else that prevents corrosion. I'll just use the water and antifreeze because it's what I have.

fair play mate I remember when I asked on here they guys told me to not be so tight and get the proper stuff
