Hi, SWells,
I'v seen some of your postings on the U.S.A. site, Re the shears, Way back in the 40's British Steel would have been called Dorman Long Co Ltd, Cant remember when they changed the name, I served my time there as a "fitter and turner"starting in 1960, A pal of mine was a "roll turner" machining the huge rolls used for forming the red hot steel into, joists, angles, chanels etc,The "British Steel" logo on you shears will have been chiseled (branded) backwards onto the final pass of the roll.the pieces of your machine have obviously been cut from some larger section,Don't know if you have ever seen a roll lathe as far as I can remember they only rev between 1/2 rpm to a max of about 8 rpm, cutting is done by profile ground tools that are adjusted by knocking in wedges from either side,The hammers used got so much constant tapping they ended up mushroomed like an old chisel.you are very please,Your dad wiil be happy knowing you are looking after his old gear,
P.S, Lovely resoration Job, Bet
Best regards gordon.
