Metalworking Career?

Part of my business was gate automation, and so made a few gates and railings along the way. Given up after six years, less work about, van and other stuff needed investment. Now do reactive electrical maintenance and am quite bored, but have regular money.

The guy whose house we bought was in that line (well he still is, Guardian if you've heard of them). Works out well for me 'cos he'd extended the double garage into a quadruple (40 x 19 ft), with 3-phase, 110v ring, 270L compressor with air ring, RSJ with electric hoists, security doors, alarm etc etc

im in the other.
i fit boats out and do the finer things in woodwork.
was welding for ten yrs, making farm and industrial buildings, so its a bit of a hobby now and make a few pennies out of it sometimes, plus ive a defender.

i know where u live then wedgie not far from me and i know your neighbour lol i know the guy real well big bill . has the guy at end of your road fixed his fence yet where a car went through it

I went for maintenance engineer , served me time as a fitter/turner and worked at that for about 5 years doing welding and fabrication at the same time, also got coded up to 6g in stick and mig and tig in aluminium and steel doing courses at night , went back and done a degree in maintence engineering and now doing another degree in manufacturing and design.

Its good to work and have an interest in your trade, thats why i am on here i suppose.

I used to make chemical plant and stuff for the food industry, vessels, pipework, etc,
but the firm closed down a couple of years ago.

Now self employed, working from home doing whatever pays the bills.
I had most of the equipment anyway from the scratch building of a "seven."

No he hasn't fixed the fence, he's the local councillor so it'll probably be done by a team of crack workies out of Billingham

Have you been in the house yet?

Couple of times First thing I had to do was build our lass a new bathroom, right down to ripping up the rotten floorboards. Then I had to change all the interior doors (9 of them, I bloody hate doors), rip out the fireplace, lay new laminate floors, fit shower pump, new sockets, new light fittings... I might get to work on my car this year

Erm... fridge-freezer already installed, as is the stereo system and TV... previous owner left them

I was a full time sheet metal worker which I loved. But got a new job designing last year and miss the shop floor. Still dip my hand in on the weekend :-)

Other, still studying for my Level 3 C&G 2800 qualification. I used to make be a shopfitter/ make kitchens.

Just a hobby for me, car exhausts, fitting turbo's, few bits and pieces for my uncles farm etc.
It is so unbelievably handy being able to weld, all be it not to a great standard!

Day job is in construction.
