Micor test / review

Few weeks back I picked up a little Micor stick
Basically a little inverter capable of mma and cells plus lift tig? Might be scratch not stuck it up yet

These plants are 240 v and supper tiny little things capable of running off a battery pack ( though it's a bit rich at present)

As you might spot the only setting is straight amps. Just the way I like it more knobs mean a higher chance of this knob putting them in the wrong place accidently

Any how I just burnt a few 4 mm 6013 when I made up some fresh leads. No fade but padding s few beads don't really tell you much more than can the set handle it

Today I was just doing a tidy up in the shop before the next job goes on the bench
I have been gonna fit a drawer under the grinder for over a year now so decided it was time to put the little set to the test with a couple of low hy
It didn't need a full run but thought that's a realistic test scrunched up under the drill press out of position. Painted to rusty - real word stick welding

Nah didn't clean up much! Dialed 125 in and popped a few tacks on and one long run along the seam

It works anyhow with three years industrial warranty it should pay for itself many times over
Comments? Arc feels softer than my other inverter but has slightly greater force I should guess
Could have played around for a few hours like getting the perfect footage and setting dialed in
Instead just took to my knees and freehand a quick run in - like I say " real world stuff"

Looking at that first picture again I am not so sure where the heck I was at - it's a badly marked dial init!

That dial is awful. There are many welders set out like that unfortunately.

To be honest in my Experiance they don't all read as they should so I just go about there bit less bit more and have learnt to pay them scant regard
Thing is I have looked again and still can't say for sure so just put a mark were I thought the 3.2 low hy works best
The only bad point though the set itself is well built and welds lovely

Just looked these up expecting them to be extortionate, but really reasonably priced! Anyone know what the lowest kVA generator it can be run from is? May be a alternative to towing the Ranger round.

Not personally but I am told as a test it did esab nu5 as a 2.5 mm for over an hour without loosing it's umph at a reduced amperage

If you don't need high amperage a small inverter is a way better thing if you can plug in - your looking at thick end of a grand for s good genny though

sorry English isn't your first language is it. A grand is £1000 , thick end means close to it but not quite that

In reality we rarely look that close and after a while I think its common to be able to work just as easy with the numbers worn off. Tiz a bit whacky layout though, to be honest I only looked after I posted the picture( did the norm 'bout there) fine tuned on tacking ( bit more tad less) and cracked on

We've got 3 of them mounted on the proper backpack frames with battery, they are really quick to bring into action when the brown stuff hits the fan during a plant breakdown, had them less than a year and they've already paid for themselves a few times.

Did a little tig with it today. Still find it hard to read were I am with the dial but it's a real nice lift tig
Massively better than the little esab on the lift ignition which worked flawlessly exactly like it should
Had to work up the amps slowly though to get the pool right. Just don't know for sure we're you are by looking
