No point to pen and paper on this machine in question. It really is that unclear to dial in but then it's a darn good set in every other respect

It's a 160 amp mma machine. The numbers are pretty much irrelevant after a week of using it you'll know where on the dial you need to be for various rods/positions etc. I really don't think it would bother me at all.

It's now got various marks on the dial for most used rods. I believe the new ones have digital read out.

The readout is an upgrade, it only comes on the ControlPro models, the Basic models have no readout.

Are they really as up to the abuse as a simple dial though? Serious question. I have my doubts

Yeah that's the way I would see it - the pot is still there and (as long as it's a standard 1 turn or 3/4 turn pot - if a multi turn pot is used then your a bit screwed!) then you still have markings - so in the event the display breaks just use the markings.

I think so mate. Most have them nowadays and stand the test of time. I think lorch tend to have a thick Perspex protective cover over most of there panels which is quite a nice touch to protect it against sparks,impact and it even keeps dust out. Unlike the flimsy thing they put on the MLS the lorch one is substantial and actually closes properly.

Yes, the display just shows what you're going to get.
You still use the dial to set the current.

The dial on the lorch isn't a simple pot no. It turns all the way round infinitely and presses in as it functions as the menu scroll and select.

Glad mine does at it does then. That stuff always breaks Imo

Rotary encoders are super reliable - they're immune from wear and don't give false readings - much better than a simple pot imho.

I doubt it Kent. The one on my handy tig is still going strong and that's a few years old now.
