Microwave combi oven tripping RCB?

Absolutely no luck finding an element on line, so I went into Currys, to ask if they can help.

The guy gave me the Sharp spare parts phone number, which I called, and they tell me they don’t sell spare parts…..

He also gave me a website that they use for spare parts…. except the website doesn’t list anything to do with Sharp… I’ve messaged them.

I also tried the Element Man, he replied to my email telling me they don’t stock the part.

Any ideas? I can’t believe a £500 appliance will be scrapped over a £30 part.

I can't find the video but there was a guy on youtube that straightened out an oven element and hand bent it around a crucible for melting aluminium, don't know how long it lasted but in your position could be tempted to make something fit in a similar way if you could get one similar enough.

If I could find the right length and nearly the same shape I could probably bend it to fit, but all the ones I see with any dimensions on seem a fair bit bigger.

I might have to try the place in Stoke, maybe they even have the bare elements, in various lengths, that can be bent to shape.

I spent an age on ebay earlier, trying numerous searches and part numbers, and nothing came up remotely resembling what I needed.

I tried contacting Sharp directly, trawled through their system of links, contacts, down to the actual microwave I have….. called the ‘contact us’ number….. and got a recorded message telling me to contact the dealer named in the user manual with the product, for servicing….

Poor service indeed, but at least you know not to buy anything Sharp again...

The element arrived from ebay today, it’s not a new one, but if I’d read the description I’d have seen that.

Anyway, it all went back together quite well, only one self tapper left over, out of about 25 that came out, and the £500 microwave lives to cook another day. The power of the Migwelding forum comes through once again.

One thing I did notice, there’s a part number stamped on the element that I never saw when inspecting the original.
