Middle of the road Tig gloves

I am not a dedicated tig only welder,

The lovely Lorch T2200 might get used once a month at best,

and when It does, I have to admit, I sometimes make silly mistakes

The other day, I was doing some ally, torch was tilting slightly towards my wire feed hand, wire was getting close to the end, at the same time I was nearing the end of the weld, I did not feel the heat till it was to late

So yes, It is my doing, and sorry to say, it probably wont be the last time either LOL

I've done loads of pairs in similar fashion.
Feeding the last 20mm of filler stub into the pool is another classic followed by a very abrupt hand shake after your done to fling the things off across the shop as your fingers are smoking under the singed leather.

I will post a video soon of how I mod my Ultia gloves to be able to feed fine fillers, i have to rest my hand on the exhausts quite a bit of the time, i just shake too much so couldnt use no gloves.

or a decent technique where you keep you fingers off the workpiece elbow on the bench with fingers well away from the pool,im an old gas welder so i dont neet a finger to steady my hand and i walk the torch when i can,i see so many guys feeding wire with hand almost in the arc zone ive got 10 tig fingers already and laugh at these people with that big bandaged finger

Sounds to me like you do a lot of yr work on a bench.

Not everyone can do this.

Some jobs you can't even get yr mask in the right direction to see the weld pool

usualy head jammed in betwween pipes feeding wire thru the butt using both hands, as well as lying in a ditch under a pipe blasting in electrodes ,bench work for me is when i do precision stuff at home i have got several t shirts and a kilt

Let's just say some on here are good at the talk.

Talk about throwing down the gauntlet lol lets just say the gloves we were supplied with 30 years ago were terrible used to tear apart being so thin, or so thick you couldnt bend your hand and smelled terrible,we started getting the ultima gold ones in recent times and they were a great improvement,probably using cheaper hides now.
worked for a well known pipeline contractor who was a real miserable sod when you asked him for a pair of gloves he used to say which pair you want left or right pair

I was using the standard tig gloves from boc and got only a few months out of each pair,
Use only the Miller ones now, they suffer from virtually no heat shrinking around the fingers like all of the others i've used,
Yeah they're at least twice the price but i got over a year from the last set, only chucked them as they filthy black.

They are ok with the heat and withstanding a good deal of ac abuse but they are quite cumbersome. I had a pair and I liked them to start with and got on ok with them but once you get into the 1mm fillers they are twice as thick as the others which probably the reason they last longer.
They ain't that expensive really. No more than a top pair of deerskins.
there are a lot better out there imo. I sold my millers in the end with only a bit of use as they are great with a 2.4 lump of 4043 and 150 amps but not so good with 50amps and a stick of 1mm.

Obviously you wanted a pair of each because you were ambidextrous , " Just in case one had to be replaced half way through an important job It would save time & money "

Didn't anyone have the courage to put it like that to him ??


I've been working with a Mr Grumpy Sour for several months , just before Crimbo I said to him . " Jack I know you don't do what I do , I know you've done the things I never did .. I value your experience & skills can you help & advise me about such & such.please ( T'was a load total blocks , it was an engineered situation to free him up with verbal easing oil )

Ye gods & graces , did that press his pleasure buttons or what . Suddenly he's Mr Happy Fun.. & best of all he's telling me about the nuts , bolts & fasteners trade for almost all disciplines .
