If it selects everything except 0, I'd count that as fine. I did successfully dismantle and rebuild a 12position one but it was a nightmare. Did work well afterwards though.

Basically depends on how much gas you are going to use, but you may not know that in advance...
Rental - e.g. from BOC - the gas is cheaper but you pay the rental. Rent-free - gas costs more, and cylinder fill pressure may not be as high.

I had a look at my Migatronic Automig 180 mono today after I'd used it (It worked fine) There's a bank of 8 caps with another 2 next to them. the bank of 8 goes to the (I think rectifier) and the other 2 go to the (I think rectifier) but a different plate.
The front 2 on the bank of 8 seem to be leaking so I'll ( or someone will) swap the lot, I can remove the bank but that's as far as it goes for me.
Are the Weco caps still available? I'm assuming the values are all the same as I could only get the ID off the front 2 on the bank of 8.
The ID is,
WECO Electrolitic cap,
10.000 uF 40v DCW,
Black Negative,
Can, not insulated,
Dims, Dia = 35mm, Ht = 65mm.
I can remove the bank easily enough ( or it looks that way) I'll get someone to do the rest hopefully.

I doubt if the original ones are still available. TecArc ( yorweldsupplies on eBay ) do have suitable ones, but they're not cheap.

:( My trusty migatronic auto 180 MX decided to blow its caps today. Look like about 3 or 4 of the 5 have gone while I was welding on its maximum setting for a short time. So I need some replacements asap. There is 5 rated at 20000 microfarads 40 volts. Any suggestions other than the usual RS...

Working Volts :- 40V. Used in DC Power Supplies but these are often used in MIG Welders as smoothing capacitors on the output. You are looking at a batch of 4 USED High Ripple DC Electrolytic Capacitors.

Migatronic machines tend to have a low OCV, and really need their capacitors, not only to smooth the arc but also to hold the voltage up to the peak value ( 1.4 x the rms voltage ) :
Migatronic Rally 166 Not Working/Penetrating
Hi, I just bought a migatronic rally 166, for some reason I can't get it to really penetrate 1mm steel even on 4 with a low wire speed. Is there something obvious which is wrong. The voltage output seems to be ok even under load.

The machine works fine but looking at those caps I don't think it will be long before they give in. I spoke to the guy at Tech arc today and he reckons they can replace the bank of 8 with 4 upgraded ones, only different fittings etc.
No mention of the original caps Wico/Wecon or whatever they call them.Out with the old in with the new. (Hopefully). Got it back and fitted it today, Seems to operate OK but couldn't give it a proper work out as my gas bottle is else where. It's my first attempt at replacing anything like this so I approached it a bit gingerly. Also many thanks to Gary at Arc masters Hull.
